Mostly European, with a hand- ful from Japan and America, the cars each carried a driver and co- driver, starting in Halifax, Nova Scotia on June 7 and scheduled to finish Sunday in San Francisco. Saturday the rally left from Reno in the morning and would finish in Eureka, passing through Red Bluff before heading to the coast via State Route 36W. Along the way the cars com- pete in three or four timed sec- tions each day during which each tries to finish the specified route as close to the prescribed time RALLY HO! Classicracers pass through Tehama County Staff Reports REDBLUFF A 62-year-old inmate at Tehama County Jail who died Jan. 20 experienced a cardiorespi- ratory arrest, or heart attack, ac- cording to final autopsy findings released Monday by the Tehama County Sheriff's Office. Edward Jay Robinson, of Corn- ing, was in custody for six days when he used a food tray to dam- age a fire suppression sprinkler and flooded the jail floor, around 6:35 a.m. Robinson was then handcuffed and sent to the observation cell around 7:30 a.m. in the booking area of the jail, the release said. There the jail staff would check on him at 7:42 a.m. and 7:55 a.m. At 8:02 a.m. the jail staff found Robinson had stopped breathing. Jail medical staff started to do cardiopulmonary resuscitation and life saving efforts were later assumed by emergency medical personnel, upon their arrival. Robinson was later sent to Saint Elizabeth Community Hos- pital, where he was pronounced deceased. JAIL Inmate's death ruled heart attack By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter RED BLUFF The Red Bluff Com- munity Center's biggest room was packed Saturday afternoon with community members, police, fire and local politicians to remem- ber the life of Red Bluff Fire Capt. Larry Snell at a celebration of life. Snell, a 35-year member of the department, started as an ROP student, working his way to fire- fighter and eventually captain. He was hiking in the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area when he died on May 26. Fellow fire- fighters said he loved photogra- phy and hiking and was an avid outdoorsman. "This is an informal gathering because that's what Larry would want," Division Chief Matthew Shobash said. "We want you to en- joy the food and enjoy the night." Shobash encouraged the audi- ence to tell stories to each other or share their memories of Snell with the audience. "He was a man of knowledge and he can't be replaced," Sho- bash said. "We're going to miss him dearly." Past and current members of RED BLUFF Communityremembersfirecaptain AlSnell, far right, shares a memory of his son, the late Red Bluff Fire Capt. JULIE ZEEB โ€” DAILY NEWS By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter RED BLUFF The 4-H Spring Spectacular Breeding and Mar- ket Prospect Show drew about 115 participants from both 4-H and FFA for the event, which was held Saturday and Sunday at the Tehama District Fair- ground. There has been a 4-H breed- ing show for several years, but the 2015 show was a bit differ- ent as it was bigger and more extensive than it usually is with it being a two-day event instead of one, said 4-H pro- gram adviser Lynn Strom. "It's a 4-H event, but we in- vited the FFA to participate," Strom said. "It gives the kids an opportunity to practice their showmanship before fair, run through the paces and get feedback from judges. It gives them a chance to get pointers, make it better and go forward for fair." One thing about having the larger show is that there was an increase in time spent on learning showmanship. Sev- eral of the members who would normally start practicing just before fair are now starting earlier on working with their animals and getting them prepped for the big fair event.
