REDBLUFF TheTehamaCounty Animal Care Center is kicking off its annual Free Cat Friday adop- tion program Friday, June 19. With the warm summer weather comes kitten season for the Animal Care Center, and the large influx of cats taps the re- sources of the staff and volun- teers. In an effort to find homes for all of the cats, the center will waive the adoption fee for adult cats the second Friday of each month. In addition to free cats, kittens will have their adoption fees dropped to only $10. Free Cat Friday events will also be held July 10, Aug. 14, Sept. 11, and Oct. 9. Tehama County Superior Court Judge Jonathan Skillman on Wednesday granted the delay at the request of both Tehama County District Attorney Gregg Cohen and Bealer's attorney, Shon Northam. Northam said there are items in the required discovery process that have yet to be provided to the defense, including text mes- sages, Facebook information from Bealer's account and video tapes, among other items. Additionally, Northam said there are witnesses who still need to be interviewed, and informa- tion in the case still needs to be provided to expert witnesses for the defense. Similarly, Cohen said prosecu- tors would be unprepared for a July 6 jury trial, as they are still waiting for DNA results and fo- rensic analysis in the case. By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter RED BLUFF Tehama County law enforcement showed support for the community Wednesday during a 1.2-mile Law Enforcement Special Olympics Torch Run from the Red Bluff California Highway Patrol office on North Main Street to the Tehama County Superior Courthouse steps on Washington Street. "We hadn't participated for several years," said CHP Lt. Lou Aviles. "We decided it was a good opportunity for law enforcement to support Special Olympics and the community." Since Aviles knows most of the agencies in Tehama County are not large ones, he decided to invite them to participate. "It's a way to show our col- lective support for Special Olympics and our collective support for each other." It was an opportunity to gather for something besides being on patrol and to build camaraderie, said Tehama County Sheriff's Lt. Dave Greer. It was also a nice chance to support Special Olympics be- yond the event held in May. For Red Bluff Police Officer Heidi Thomas, who works as the School Resource Officer at Red Bluff High School, it was more personal. "I grew up at Special Olym- pics," Thomas said.
