There is a requirement that soon after the colony is established, training of the Executive Board and colony advisors will be conducted by Jack Causseaux. This will cover the Chapter history, UF expectations, and risk management. APRIL 9 AND 10 MEETING Participants: Dr. Brian D. Ray - Lecturer in Leadership and Ethics, Director, Heavener School of Business, Warrington College of Business Administration, Heavener School of Business Myra Morgan - UF Director of External Relations, Division of Student Affairs Sara Tanner - Director of Marketing and Communications, Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs Troy Starling - Associate Director, UF Department of Dermatology, College of Medicine Nancy Chrystal-Green, Ph.D. - Director, Department of Student Activities & Involvement, Division of Student Affairs The purpose of all these meetings was to begin building partnerships with the UF faculty and staff that will lead to helping Florida Alpha/SigEp Balanced Man Program members learn and develop the personal skills they will need to excel in their personal and professional lives during and after college. One important goal will be for Florida Alpha to earn the designation of being a Residential Learning Community, bestowed by our National Headquarters. A major component of achieving this distinction is providing programming in the areas of personal and professional development. We believe there are four areas we and the UF staff and educators want to concentrate on that are very much needed by today's college graduates: (1) Character development, e.g. ethics; (2) Leadership skills development; (3) Social programs that deliver what undergraduates want and need, e.g. social interaction, especially with women, without jeopardizing our priorities; and (4) Professional development/job placement programs to prepare our members for the professional world and provide them with access to internship opportunities, and help get them good jobs. We believe that if we do all of these things well, we will produce an experience at UF and in the Fraternity world that is rivaled by few and will ultimately lead to attracting and developing great men. Everyone we met with agreed to work with us and help us build the partnerships necessary to ensure success. The warm reception we received from UF coupled with the strong support committed by Trevor, Austin, and Patrick makes me very optimistic about the bright future for SigEp at UF. An "outsider's" reaction to the series of meetings, I think, is important. Trevor Bullard is the chapter development director for the Sigma Phi Epsilon National Headquarters. I close with his impression of his visit and or meetings. "As headlines and news stories make the future of fraternities look bleaker by the day, the organizations that survive will be the ones that universities value as partners to complete the same mission. "I saw firsthand that the University of Florida has a great outlook on SigEp, not only because of what our organization stands for nationally, but because of the relationships and impressions that Florida Alpha SigEps have made on the school. We have the potential to do something great that redefines what a SigEp chapter should be, and all of us at Headquarters are excited to be a part of it."
