Parks Nancy and Ward Petty In honor of Margaret "Mimi" Petty '14 Lucy Green Elizabeth Erin Taylor 5 Neillie Kirk Butler '99 and KD Make Dreams Come True A s a child, Neillie Kirk Butler '99 had much exposure to Kappa Delta. Both her mother, Tricia Cary Kirk '74, and grandmother, Sara Stokes Kirk '46, were alumnae, so it was only natural that come time for Neillie to attend college, she follow in their footsteps. Once she joined Kappa Delta, Neillie gained a sense of camaraderie with her sisters. The sense of sisterhood and togetherness that exuded from the Chapter was strong, which made Neillie extremely proud of her membership. The bonds she formed were especially meaningful during her undergraduate years battling cancer. "Three out of my four undergraduate years were spent fighting cancer, so my college experience was very different than my peers'. I didn't have the opportunity to live the typical college life, but what I got in exchange was so much love and support from the women in Kappa Delta. Many days when I was in the house, sick or just out of surgery, they were my caretakers. At one point, I was planning UA's first Relay for Life event, that was my first big planning role. Three weeks before the event, I had a relapse which left me extremely ill and unable to take part in the walk. However, my sisters built a team, made shirts, and walked for me. They were my family away from home." (Continued on page 7)
