T
his is to notify the brothers of the Delta Upsilon
Chapter of Sigma Chi Fraternity that I have given our
House Corporation president, Mike Carson '95, notice of
my intention to retire from the position of treasurer of the
Manhattan Sigma Chi Association, Inc., effective at the
end of the current fiscal year, June 30, 2015.
I became the treasurer of the House
Corporation on May 5, 1982. In 1988, I
gave up the position when my wife and I
left Manhattan and moved to Kansas City.
A year later, we returned to Manhattan and
on May 4, 1992, I became treasurer again
and have been ever since.
I have enjoyed working with the chapter and
the guys over those 29 years, but it is time to
give it up. At the direction of the House Corporation,
I am in the process of turning over the chapter and House
Corporation accounting functions to a local accounting
entrepreneur that handles the accounting matters of a
sorority as well.
The chapter has made a great deal of progress in recent
years and thanks to good house leadership and several
strong pledge classes, membership of the chapter is strong
and the finances are in the best shape they've been in
for quite some time. You'll be pleased to know that last
December I was able to pay off the mortgage on the house
with Sunflower Bank of Manhattan.
As you have read in other recent articles in our newsletters,
even though the house is strong, the physical structure
is in need of major renovation to keep pace with our
competition. After a fire destroyed our old house in June
1981, construction of the existing house was completed
in August 1982, so it's currently in its 33rd year of
operation. It's now showing its age and is
becoming outdated. In order for the chapter
to remain competitive with fraternities with
new or modernized facilities, and to attract
the best candidates for membership, the
house needs to be updated in a major way
in the near future.
In the next few months, someone needs
to step up and take the reins as treasurer of
the House Corporation. It is a very rewarding
experience for a brother who wants to become
involved with the chapter and guide its finances. If you
have an interest or want to learn more, you can contact
me at larryf@found.ksu.edu or (785) 532-7541, or Mike
Carson at chloster03@yahoo.com or (785) 341-4052.
I thank you all for allowing me to serve as treasurer all
these years and I wish the chapter all the best in the future.
In Hoc,
