3 T he spring semester of 2015 has provided excitement for all. The newly initiated pledge class of 2014 has brought new input and ideas to the chapter and our new chapter officers have been working toward their goals. Changes occurred to the physical house, as minor renovations were made to the first-floor hallways. SIGMA CHI CONNECTS WITH PARENTS Dad's Day was a fun event when our dads visited on November 1. We enjoyed a large tailgate with plenty of eating, socializing, and playing games before a day at Bill Snyder Family Stadium watching our football team play Oklahoma State. It was a great chance for our fathers to bond and meet our brothers. Our Mom's Day was the best yet with many events, including a live auction hosted by the active chapter. Following the auction was a formal dinner funded by the Mom's Club. It was a good weekend for the active chapter to catch up with their moms and show them what Sigma Chi is all about! GREEK EXPERIENCE This February, Kansas State University hosted it's annual Greek experience, a day for high school students and their parents to learn more about Greek life on campus. The recruitment chairmen, Ryan Porter '16 and Jack Logan '17, were up early setting up a table in the Union where they spoke with many young men about Sigma Chi. Afterward, roughly 30 potential recruits came by to tour the chapter house and talk to the active chapter. FIRST-FLOOR HALLWAY RENOVATION One of the major projects we accomplished was replacing the flooring in the first-floor hallway and foyer, which had an old blue carpet. With the help of some donations, we put together a $4,000 budget to replace the flooring. Thanks to Pat McGee, father of Chris McGee '17, we replaced the flooring on our own. Many brothers gathered over Christmas break and tore up the flooring and replaced it with new tile. It took an entire weekend of hard work, but the end results look great. PLEDGE CLASS PROJECT One Delta Upsilon tradition is the pledge class project. Last year, the pledge class of 2013 did not do a pledge class project, so this year they joined efforts with pledge class of 2014 to revamp the first-floor library. We wanted to put a in pool table and close the room off with a heavy-duty farm wood sliding door. Thanks to a donation from the mother of Dusty Male '18, we picked up a free pool table for the project. The project will be finished by the end of the spring semester with an estimated cost of $1,000 funded by the brothers of the two pledge classes. Delta Upsilon has set many goals this semester and looks to the standards and values set by those before us as guidance to reach success. We welcome you to visit the chapter house on your next trip back to campus.
