E mma Harper Turner, Indiana Alpha 1888, established the first alumnae association and she created the plan for the Pi Beta Phi Settlement School, the first philanthropic project of any women's fraternity. Incidentally, she started out as a Kappa. Her chapter had their charter revoked shortly after she was initiated for reasons that aren't entirely clear and she was granted an honorable dismissal. Emma then founded the Pi Phi chapter at Franklin College, back when you could be an initiated member of more than one organization.
