SETTING A GOLDEN STANDARD Indiana Delta Heading in New Direction A fter spending the fall semester in Ireland, I had no idea what to expect upon my return to DePauw and SAE. When I left, the chapter had fallen to the lowest membership in years and was a relatively young brotherhood, with only two seniors living in the house. Arriving on campus just a few hours before the first round of recruitment, it was clear in the first five minutes that this chapter was a very different one than the one I left. Yes, the house had major improvements to it, from new floors and central air to the addition of two mammoth televisions. But the biggest difference was in the atmosphere of the chapter and the energy of the brothers. I was not the only person to notice the potential and excitement in the new house. When recruitment finally ended, the chapter doubled in size, bringing in 19 new gentlemen. For the smallest chapter on campus to pull such a great number in a year that had the lowest number of eligible men in a decade is a great sign that the chapter is moving in a different direction. We are also proud to announce that we have embraced the True Gentleman Experience, doing away with pledgeship altogether. All 19 new members were initiated within days of receiving their bids, and the entire chapter is experiencing the new holistic educational process. As the semester rolls on, we hope to continue the momentum from recruitment and enhance the image of the chapter on campus and in the Greencastle community. Through philanthropic efforts from our own organization and participating in other Greek events and a rededication to scholarship, we are committed to making the Sigma Alpha Epsilon name once again synonymous with True Gentleman. The future is extremely bright for Indiana Delta, and we look forward to further growing the chapter into not only the premier chapter on campus, but also one that sets a golden standard for all others to admire.
