8A Daily News – Tuesday, December 20, 2011 2011 Cattle Days another success Special to the DN What a beautiful day we had for the 17th Annu- al Cattle Days in Red Bluff at the Tehama Dis- trict Fairground with a fine group of over 100 contestants coming from as far away as Brentwood and Oakdale to compete. Many local talents also showed up to keep the Western Heritage alive. All ages competed from age 2 to well over 50 years old. The great weather brought out many post entries and delayed our start a little, but the rest of the day went as planned. All Around winners took home beautiful Bob Berg buckles thanks to our wonderful sponsors. The day started with the 5 & Under with Colton Suther ending up the All Around winner in that age group and Kaley Schrovosky coming in a close second loosing by only two points. The third in the All Around winner was Kaden Schrovosky. The Renihan Family stepped up and took charge of this age division getting awards and putting together all of the events with helpers. Sponsors for the 5 & Under were Trinity Coun- ty Fairgrounds, Jerry & Dorothy Fulton, Hayfork and DPM Landscaping, Red Bluff and Buds Jolly Cone, Red Bluff. The 6-10 year olds ran a fun race with little Kamish Wagner ending up taking the top honor being one of the youngest in this age group. Shelby Dunning gave her a run for the money to win one of the Reserve All Around jackets. The embroidery was donated by The Embroidery Shop. Third All Around win- ner was Davis Mardesich. Sponsors for the 6-10 awards were CR BBQ & Catering, Collins & Rohr Families & Accurate Clippers Sharpening - Teri Collins, Red Bluff. In the 11-13 Age Divi- sion, Wyatt Spencer was the All Around winner with Bailey Bean coming in close behind to win Reserve. The third place All Around winner was Jesse Mason. Sponsor for the 11-13 kids was JR Swain Transportation, Orland and Spencer Cat- tle Company, Corning. The 14-19 year olds was a fun race to watch with Courtney Wood and Jesse Brewer each vying for the buckle. Courtney had won the poles, but had a rough go in the bar- rels making a beautiful run only to find out the timer malfunctioned. Her spirit wasn't broken, she bounced back to win the Goat Tying with a 7.661. Jesse had won the team roping and was quick to stay with her by winning the Hide race. In the end, Courtney was our Bob Berg buckle All Around winner with Jesse ending up with the Moore Maker knife for the Reserve honor. The third place All Around winner was Mason Mardesich. Spon- sors for the 14-19 division were Tehama County Sheriff Dave Hencratt and Dr. Laquin Carlson, Lassen Mobile Veterinary Services. The 20 and Over was also a close match, Dean Miller took the All Around buckle winning the Chute Dog- ging and staying in the points in many other events. Justin Niesen, winner of the Steer Daub- ing, Team Roping and Steer Stopping, went home with the Reserve prize, this time by just three points and the third Courtesy photo Cattle Days winners pictured bottom row from left: Reserve 5 & Under Kaley Schrovosky, Reserve 6- 10 Shelby Dunning, All Around 6 to 10 Kamish Wagner, All Around 11-13 Wyatt Spencer. Skeet Gould was kind enough to donate a saddle pad, which we gave a hard luck award to Jason Spencer for his bad luck of seven stitches in the cheek from a steer in the Ribbon Roping Contest. Skeet also donated a set of reins which went to a combined fast time win- ner, Cassidy Chrisman. The team events defi- nitely challenged him, but he again accepted with a smile. Rick Sedita, Jerritt Wagner, Lennie Wood, Jim Moore and Jake King flagged in the Pavilion for Chute Dogging, Calf, Steer Riding, Barrels and Goat events. Arena Directors Jake King and Jason Spencer kept up a fast pace between both arenas. Rough Stock judges were Rick Sedita and Rich Bean, sorry, not sure about the bull fighters. Goats were donated by the Ralph & Angie Heit- man Ranch, grandparents of one of our contestants, Caleb Heitman, and Mut- ton Busting sheep were donated by Nathan and Mattie Bunting, this saved us quite a bit for which we are truly thankful. Colby Camacho, a past Cattle Days competitor, gave us a deal on all of the cattle, so that we can con- tinue to hold Cattle Days. Announcers were scarce so Justin Niesen stepped up to the plate and gra- ciously volunteered in the Bull Sale Arena with Zandee Meadows taking over for us in the Pavilion. Timers that accepted our plea for help were Denise Price, Jean Wood, Katie Brewer, Trish Lorenzo, Bill McElroy, Gwen Bean and Adriene Wagner. Gatemen were many, Deacon Murphy and Bill McElroy did the job most of the time. Other board members that filled in all other places with helpers were Stevena Sedita, Ken Cox, Linda Simpson and most of all our Cattle Days and Red Bluff Junior Round- Up, Rodeo Secretary Tammie McElroy. There were many other helpers including family and friends and truly we couldn't have done this without them. Thanks to CR BBQ & Catering the Concession stand kept us well fed. $5 off Signature Service® Oil Change 190 S. The most fun was held to the last events, the team events. The top team came to compete winning three of the four team events. We were honored to be able to have three generations of the Jerry Brewer Family compete in these. Jerry, Clint & Jesse Brewer won the beautiful leather lettered bronc halters donated by Hill Enterprises, a Cattle Days long time sponsor. An original Cattle Days contestant Elizabeth Mendenhall had been hired to do the leather- work on the halters. The Brewers have been com- petitors at Cattle Days many times throughout the past years and in fact, the first and many Cattle Days afterwards have been held at the Brewer Family Roping Arena in Los Molinos. The Brew- er Family was well repre- sented with a total of seven family contestants for the day. The Schro v osk y , Chrisman/Baker and Shank families also had many competing this weekend. We are thankful for the many family entries, showing that Cattle Days again continues to be about Cowboys young and old at heart and keep- ing families competing together. Sincere thanks to all that sponsored, competed, helped and continue to support our Cattle Days Event, from the 2011 Cat- tle Days Committee. Our next Cattle Days will be held in the spring of 2012. Anyone that would like to volunteer for any of the above at our 2012 Cattle Days, please contact Deb- bie Moore, 530-527- 1632. Other results will be posted on the www.redbluffjunior- roundup.com website. O D
