AVC Alabama Beta P.O. Box 362112 Birmingham, AL 35236 Address Service Requested SFE ED DOO R R ALABAMA BETA s THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA SIGMA PHI EPSILON THE SAVE THE DATE This year the Chapter's Alumni Day will be held at the house on Saturday, September 12. This is the day of the Alabama vs. Middle Tennessee State football game. All alumni brothers and their families are encouraged to visit the Chapter and join the undergraduate brothers for lunch. More information is forthcoming. Meanwhile, check the Chapter website and alumni Facebook page for updates. Alabama Beta Makes Its Mark on Campus Robert E. Witt Cup and Top Fraternity GPA among Chapter Accomplishments T his has been an exciting and busy semester for Alabama Beta. Our manpower is steadily increasing, brotherhood is growing, and the future could not look brighter for our Chapter. This spring has included a chartering banquet, alumni golf tournament, Greek excellence awards, formal, Carlson Leadership Academy, and several more events. Chapter Earns Six Greek Excellence Awards Alabama Beta made our presence known at the Greek Excellence awards. The Chapter took home six awards: Outstanding Alumni/Alumnae relations, Outstanding Risk Management, Outstanding Educational Programming, Outstanding Commitment to Diversity, Most Outstanding UA IFC Chapter, and the Dr. Robert E. Witt Cup. These awards could not have happened without a tremendous amount of work from each brother. The awards that stand out among these are the Most Outstanding UA IFC Chapter and Dr. Robert E. Witt Cup, which is the second year in a row our Chapter has won this award. The Chapter earning the Witt Cup "exemplifies the ideals and values of the UA Greek community." Alabama Beta is setting an example of what other UA Chapters hope to achieve. This achievement could not have been accomplished if we did not have the hard-working brothers who set their mind to it. This award is not given just for highest GPA or most service hours; it is given for best overall Greek chapter. New Members Fifteen new members were welcomed into the brotherhood this spring. Their addition brings the total membership to 124, the highest it has been since our return to campus. Some chapters choose to sacrifice close bonds for higher manpower, but I am proud to say that the brothers of Alabama Beta hold our brotherhood at high value. Our brotherhood is as strong as ever, and I am looking forward to the fall recruitment class led by Trevor Pinchback '16. Members Excel in Academics and Campus Leadership Last fall we recorded a GPA of 3.45, highest of all fraternities. This demonstrates that our recruitment standards value young men who can balance all that college throws at them, in addition to making a good addition to the Chapter. Our new members' GPA of 3.5 shows this. While GPA is not everything we strive for academically, we have brothers involved in other organizations that are very selective. Tommy Scott '18 was selected to be a Capstone Man, which is a very high honor for any student, especially a freshman. Tommy will be an ambassador for the university, traveling throughout the year and leading tours. Jack York '17 was selected to be in the Culverhouse Investment Management Group, which is a selective process. The group is a self-run investment fund managed by this group of students. Alex Sullivan '17 and Adrian Do '17 were selected to be Culverhouse Ambassadors, which is also a high honor. Alex and Adrian will be giving tours to potential students and giving out information regarding the college. As successful as spring has been for Alabama Beta, fall has the potential to be an even greater success. Between a new recruitment class and the previous semester's GPA rankings, we have our hopes set high. If you are ever in the Tuscaloosa area and would like to stop by, please do so!
