SIGMA PHI EPSILON THANK YOU, LOYAL BROTHERS T he only source of funds available to the AVC to carry on its activities and to support the undergraduates through scholarships is the contributions from alumni. The alumni have the following funds to which they can contribute: • AVC - Funds are used to pay expenses of the AVC and assist the Chapter in specific needs. • Sigma Phi Epsilon Foundation Discretionary Scholarship Fund* – These funds are used at the discretion of the AVC to provide financial support to undergraduates. • Sigma Phi Epsilon Foundation Fixed Scholarship Fund* – This fund's purpose is to create an endowment. Therefore, the amount of the distributions annually is restricted. We encourage all alumni to support our Chapter through a gift to one of these funds. A very special thank-you goes to the following alumni who have contributed since the last newsletter. Karl Stegall '58 Darryl B. Britt '61 James W. Parker '69 Benjamin O. Butler '01 *Tax deductible Joe Judge '14 Feels Joining SigEp Was One of the Best Decisions of His Life J oe Judge '14 is proud of the work he and his brothers put in to growing Alabama Beta. "The fact that we have more than 100 members is because of the work we put in. The reason we have a house now is because of the work we put in. It wasn't always easy, but it was worth it," he said. Alabama Beta is a breeding ground for young leaders. Joe took advantage of several leadership opportunities within the Chapter, including newspaper chairman and VP of communication. "It taught me about how to properly prioritize my schedule since I had to balance school, work, and a social life, as well as being a strong leader and learning how to manage others." After graduating with honors in December 2014 with a bachelor's in operations management, Joe works as the lead change management engineer at ZF Lenforder in Northport, Alabama. The plant makes the axles for the local Mercedes plant and Joe's role is to ensure all changes are quoted and properly implemented. Joe advises active members that "it's never too early to start working toward an internship or career-related goals." It was through an internship in his junior year that Joe was able to land his current job so quickly after graduation. The men of Alabama Beta were influential in Joe's decision to pursue operations management. "During my sophomore year, I was no longer confident that my current major, journalism, would be beneficial for my future. Many brothers of mine in the business school suggested operations management, and I am very glad I listened." Looking back on his time in the Chapter, Joe has a hard time picking just one favorite moment with his brothers. "It's not one moment that sticks out since all of my time in SigEp during those three and a half years were a blast, from the small things like hanging out during community service events to the large events like formals," he said. "It was likely one of the best decisions I made in my life by joining SigEp." Joe lives in Tuscaloosa and enjoys basketball and weight lifting. His future plans include graduate school and seeking a position in logistics management in the Nashville area. He enjoys staying in touch with members from his pledge class and looks forward to remaining involved with the Chapter over the years by visiting the Chapter House.
