4 Lyre Notes O n February 7, Alpha Nu hosted Province Day for Alpha Chi Omega with executive boards from Delta Zeta (Iowa State), Delta Epsilon (Southeast Missouri State), Zeta Sigma (Missouri State) and Delta Chi (William Woods) chapters gathering in Columbia. The conference featured inspiring speakers, idea sharing and socializing. The purpose of Province Day was to provide essential tools for executive board members to help them be more effective in their roles. The focus was on building confidence in leadership ability and establishing a support network among the officers. Attendees were encouraged to take their new knowledge and enthusiasm back to their chapters and apply it to make a positive impact. Special thanks to Chapter Advisor Jessi Meredith Caldera '03 and Financial Advisor Krystin Nichols Cooper '87 who led breakout sessions. Alpha Nu Hosts MO/Iowa Province Day Help Identify Potential Members for 2015 Recruitment New Process for Submitting Recommendations A ugust will be here before you know it and Alpha Chis across the country are hard at work preparing for Fall 2015 formal recruitment. Alpha Chi needs your help to identify the best possible new members through recommendation forms. There is a new process for recommendations this year. The recommendation form is now completely electronic. One of the benefits of the new process is that anyone who submits a recommendation will know if the recommendation was received by the chapter. Alumnae are encouraged to review the instructions for submitting a recommendation available at alphachiomega.org; then click on Recommend a Member. Recommendation forms are a wonderful way for the chapter to learn about potential new members in advance. However, they do not guarantee an invitation to additional rounds of formal recruitment or a bid from the chapter. Formal recruitment at Mizzou will be August 16–23. In 2014, nearly 2,000 women participated, so recommendations are needed to differentiate the best candidates. Questions about formal recruitment at Mizzou can be sent to Recruitment Advisor Patti Knopke Wagner '03 at pattiswagner@gmail.com or (314) 302-4371. T he 2015 Alpha Nu executive board is excited for its plans for the chapter this coming year. Our strong and dynamic group of women leading the chapter is passionate and brings a multitude of creative and progressive ideas to the table to spark positive change. Among our long list of goals are revamping many of our programs and providing more opportunities for participating in philanthropic activities and community service. Engaging members in our programming is a priority. While many events are mandatory, we'd like to get more members involved in those which are not by providing new events. For example, to supplement our intellectual development programming, we sponsored a new event in March for members on resume building, networking tips and advice on how to be successful in the workplace. We also hosted a public screening of Someone You Love: The HPV Epidemic, featuring Kelly Pozzoli '98, to spread awareness of cervical cancer and how it can be prevented (see related story on page 5). In lieu of a midnight barbecue in October, the chapter hosted the very successful Desserts and Pies with Alpha Chis. More than $10,000 was raised for True North, the women's shelter in Columbia, through the sale of sweet treats at the chapter house starting at midnight. This led to the ACW Best Kisser competition in February, which raised another $1,200 for True North. Fraternity men competed by purchasing Hershey kisses. In early April, the chapter joined the men of Alpha Kappa Lambda for their These Hands Don't Hurt campaign to promote an end to domestic violence. For each $1 donation, donors were given a paper hand to place on a board. These additional events allow us to raise money for True North year round. The future is looking so bright with the positive changes that already are taking place. Members are striving to make a difference in the chapter and the community. We're excited for what's ahead!
