ALUMNI UPDATE Chapter Eternal Jay Keffer '65 entered Chapter Eternal October 2014. Jay was an aeronautical engineer that designed space craft for NASA. He also was a strong leader in Beta academic endeavors as an active. He will be dearly missed by his family and close Beta brothers. Alumni News Steve Sherman '65 sent his regrets for not being able to make it to Homecoming. He said, "I am a chapter counselor for one of our newest chapters, Eta Kappa at University of the Pacific. The Pacific Betas received their charter on the eighth day of the eighth month last summer at the 175th Convention of our fraternity in Oxford. It is such a privilege to be a part this chapter of principled young brothers. Through my work with them I hope they'll see that Beta for life is more than a slogan. I've never been more proud to be a Beta." Chuck Hensley '66 was recognized during Homecoming weekend by the Spears School of Business as the school celebrated its 100th anniversary. Graduates were acknowledged who exemplify the Oklahoma State and business school spirit. Chuck's experience as an active Beta has been previously described but merits reiterating. Chuck said, "I made some very close friends in that time. The most important part of pledging was that it helped me make my grades. Through the discipline of study halls and the emphasis Beta put on academics, I was able to adjust from my poor study habits from high school. The experience rubs off on you and builds into your expectations later in life." Tony Crawford '67 is a professor at Kansas State University. When the recruitment chairman needed some additional funds for the 2014 program, Tony responded quickly with the following. "I appreciate all the responses from the brothers regarding this request. Without my Beta experience at OSU, it is doubtful that I would have been successful in my educational pursuits and professional career. I have always been proud to be a Beta, and at Kansas State University I am constantly coming in contact with outstanding K-State alumni who are Betas. Our Beta brotherhood creates an immediate bond. Gamma Lambda deserves our support so that others can share what we have gained and learned as Betas; we should not expect anything else in return." Blake Maguire '10 was married in April 2014. He was varsity review director for Beta his junior year, met his counterpart director, Kristen, at the Pi Phi house and after the Turkey Pull, the rest is history. Blake says one thing special about their wedding weekend was that his 2006–10 pledge brothers (Jason Carver '11, J.C. Crum '10, Jordan Hill '10, Ben Jolliff '10, Ben Pontious '10, Hunt Rose '10, Andrew Royce '09, and Nathan Wiebe '10) were all groomsmen or ushers. Another 12 brothers made the evening even more special by attending. Also, late at the reception, the Betas celebrated with the passing of the Loving Cup. Joining the Loving Cup ceremony were four additional brothers, all with 50-year pins. Blake says that is "testimony that Betas are brothers for life."
