To Make Better Men A ndy Clausen '90 has always been a proud member of Lambda Chapter. His pride has only gotten stronger over the years as he stays connected through his duties as Chapter adviser and contributing to the capital campaign. As an undergraduate Andy served as VNR of alumni relations and noble ruler while earning a B.S. in agricultural business management. He is thankful for the Lambda connections that have helped him in his professional life. "I worked for Dave Plath '70 at the U of M and used him as a reference for my first job at Farm Credit Services in Madison, Minnesota. I believe the reference was influential in getting my first job." Andy's second job at Community Bank of New Ulm was offered to him by then President Phil Traxler '83, who Andy knew from Phil's time on the AGR Alumni Corporation board. After becoming engaged and moving to the Twin Cities, Andy has worked as a senior loan officer at SPEDCO, where they do commercial real estate lending to small businesses. Andy has acted as Chapter adviser for 15 years now, a role which allows him to stay connected to Lambda. For the first 12 years Andy took a more active role, attending most Chapter meetings, Leadership Seminars every other year, and reviewing the budget. As his children have grown older he has stepped back his responsibilities and only reviews monthly financial statements and makes sure things don't get too far off track. When the capital campaign was announced, Andy knew it was his time and responsibility to support the fraternity that provided him such a valuable experience. "It is our responsibility to provide a good housing option for future AGR brothers. I appreciate the friends, experiences, and business contacts I made through my AGR involvement. I want to make sure those opportunities are available to the young men of today and tomorrow." While alumni participation in the campaign has been high, Andy knows there are still many brothers who have not gotten involved. "I know many brothers have made lifelong friends, obtained new job opportunities, or even met their wife through fraternity functions. I know they have positive feelings toward the fraternity, so it puzzles me that they have not stepped up and made a contribution." He hopes that all brothers will make the decision to give back to Lambda for all it has given to them. "If there are brothers who have not donated for one or more reasons, I strongly encourage you to put past feelings behind and make your pledge now." ALUMNUS ENCOURAGES ALL BROTHERS TO MAKE A PLEDGE TODAY Andy and his wife, Connie, live in Blaine, Minnesota, and have three sons and a daughter, ages 4 to 13. He suspects one or more of his sons may want to join AGR if they decide to attend the U of M. In his free time Andy enjoys going to the cabin, deer hunting, and attending his kids' sporting activities.
