A-Tau Observer www.atonebraska.org 4 ALUMNUS MOTIVATED TO SUPPORT CAPITAL CAMPAIGN Win Wade '58 Gives Back to continue ATW's tradition of excellence I f someone would have asked me 10 years ago if I could see my sons, Drew Dudley '12 and Mitch Dudley '14, living in the ATW house I would have said, "It's a father's dream." Reality is that both my sons are now living in the house and the desire to see a renovation is tenfold what it was previously. As an alumnus, when you start to think about the possibility of having one of your sons live in ATW and experience a three-man room, late-night mung sessions, snow patrol, or Storybook Ball, those memories light the fire to make sure the ATW experience stays a part of UNL. ATW is definitely not about living in the perfect house, but we do need to provide an attractive, comfortable, and safe living experience. When I lived in, having bathroom doors blocked open because the hinges are off or a room without closet doors really didn't register. However, bring a rushee through the house with his mother at his side…oh boy does that make signing a challenge. If I had the vision that Otis and Erskin had I would have been on the campaign drive 10 years ago. You can't get the full college experience without having 65 brothers living under the same roof. I want to encourage any ATWs with a young son at home to think about your college experiences, who your friends are today, who you know, and how you are connected. You can't go wrong continuing the ATW tradition! Fifty years ago an ATW had the vision to start a capital campaign for the new addition. It's imperative that we carry on the same commitment to ensure ATWs existence for another 50 years. L&R, Bob Dudley '79 Why Is the Building on a Tradition of Excellence Campaign Important? M embership in Alpha Tau Omega gave Win Wade '58 a sense of purpose as an undergraduate. Advancing the fraternity, improving himself, and focusing on his education were all personal goals that he achieved as a leader in Gamma Theta. These positive memories inspired Win to support the Building on a Tradition of Excellence campaign with the hope that future generations may enjoy the same benefits. "My college and ATW experience were important parts of my life. It was where I matured and grew up, so I had some strong feelings about ATW," Win said. "Since it is now more important than ever, I have decided to support this project. I came from a small town and this was my first big city experience, so it means a lot in my total life history." Win recognizes the importance of providing an attractive and modern home to recruit the university's top students and remain competitive with other housing alternatives. "The youth of today are totally different than the youth when I was there. Students expect facilities that are more modern," he said. "I think it's probably overdue, but now it's time to bring it up to the current century." Win challenges brothers to reflect on their ATW experience and the meaning it had at a formative time in their life. If it does hold a place of importance, then "you have to seriously consider it so others can receive that same experience." Gamma Theta provided several leaderships lessons that Win carried throughout his life. He spent his 37-year career with AT&T and its related entities. During that time, he experienced several aspects of the company, accepting 19 different positions. Through it all, he has remained close with several ATW brothers. Win enjoys playing golf and traveling with his wife, Linda. They reside in Scottsdale, Arizona, but travel internationally about two months a year. Win can be reached at winwade@aol.com. "My college and ATW experience were important parts of my life. It was where I matured and grew up, so I had some strong feelings about ATW." Drew Dudley '12, Bob Dudley '79, and Mitch Dudley '14 at the all-class reunion.
