The Lady Cardinals (5-0-1) travel to the Anderson Tour- nament Friday where they are scheduled to play Red Bluff and Henley, Oregon. CORNING 15, PIERCE 1 The Lady Cardinals poured it on late Sat- urday, building upon an early 3-1 lead to win in a mercy-short- ened six innings. Corning scored five times in the fifth inning and seven times in the sixth inning. Marrissa Hopkins drove in four runs, going 3-for-4. Cheyenne Boles had a pair of doubles and a single and drove in three runs. Baylie Fryar singled twice, doubled and drove in three runs. Candace Muller and Kimmy White each drove in a run. Muller had a single and a dou- ble. White had three singles. Cassie Carter singled and tri- pled. Boles pitched the first five in- nings to earn the win. Hopkins struck out two bat- ters in one inning of relief work. CORNING 2, COLUSA 1 The Lady Cardinals beat the tournament hosts Saturday. Fryar and White each drove in a run and had two hits. Sophia Oliverez had a double. Hopkins earned the win and Boles picked up the save. CORNING 2, WILLOWS 2 The only game Corning didn't win, was a tie with Willows Saturday. Oliverez singled and hit a solo homer. Bethany Bott had a single and a double. Fryar drove in a run. Boles pitched all seven in- nings. CORNING 15, WINTERS 5 Corning won in a mercy-shortened four innings Friday. Fryar went 4-for-4 with a tri- ple and drove in four runs. Kaitlin Cox, Muller, Bott and Boles each drove in two runs. Boles had three singles. Oliverez also had a RBI, a tri- ple and two singles. Muller had a double. Cox had four singles, Hopkins pitched four innings for the win. CORNING 14, UNIVERSITY PREP 0 Corning won in a mercy-short- ened four innings Friday. Fryar had a pair of doubles and four RBIs. Cox, Oliverez, Bott, Hopkins and White each had doubles in the win. Cox and White both drove in two runs. Oliverez, Sarah Boone, Kate Picha, Bott and Boles each had a RBI. Cox, Oliverez, White and Boles had multi-hit games. Boles picked up the win. The second annual Northern Section Senior Soccer Showcase features the best seniors slated to face each other in a North vs. South format at Harrison Sta- dium. "Have fun and don't get hurt, that's what I told them before the game," Kim Olivias said. Olivias, the coach of the Winters girls soc- cer team, was chosen to coach this year's south girls team. "It was great. I had a lot of fun getting to know all of the girls. Just a great group and they came out and had fun and that's what it was about." Manager Bob Melvin made the announcement Monday, saying Gray will face Texas on April 6. "He's made for this. It's kind of who he is," Melvin said. "He's ex- tremely competitive, talented. He loves the spotlight games." Gray pitched six shutout in- nings against Cleveland in last year's opener, just the second pitcher in Oakland history to not allow a run on opening day. Red Bluff was trailing 4-2 midway through the third in- ning of the championship be- fore the Spartan bats got hot again. Red Bluff tied it up 4-4 with two runs in the bottom of the third and then scored four more runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. Lane Pritchard knocked in three RBIs on a 3-for-3 day from the plate that included a triple and a walk. Will Macdonald went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs. Jack Murphy, Walker Dodero, Wesley Clawson and Eric Schreter also drove in runs. Murphy had a double. Kolby Button and Clawson each had two singles. Macdonald came in for re- lief and picked up the win. Dodero, Macdonald and Schreter combined to strike out 10 batters. RED BLUFF 5, WEST VALLEY 1 Red Bluff opened the day with a win over West Valley. The Eagles led 1-0 until the fourth inning when the Spar- tans tied the game. Red Bluff took the lead in the sixth inning and then tacked on three insurance runs in the seventh. Ryan Gamboa drove in three runs and had a triple. Button and Macdonald also drove in runs. Dodero had a pair of singles. Sam Hendricks had a dou- ble. Pritchard stole two bases and also picked up the win with three innings of hitless relief. Bryce Sinclair started the game and went four innings. Red Bluff (7-0, 1-0) returns to league play 7 p.m. tonight when they host Foothill (6-1-1). CORNING 6, LASSEN 1 Corning bounced back from two de- feats on Day 1 of the Oroville Tournament to pick up a win Saturday. Lassen led 1-0 until the third inning, when Corning struck for five runs. Brady Meeds, Drew Fissori, Isaiah Jones, Trent Conoly, Austin Fox and Chris Prest each drove in a run for the Cardinals. Fox had a single and a dou- ble. Chance Nelson had a double and stole two bases. Nelson also pitched all seven innings, allowing four hits and striking out two to earn the win. Corning (3-3) hosts Paradise 5:30 p.m. tonight.
