ByPatriciaMartin According to God's Word, found in this Psalm, we are re- vived, strength- ened, saved, healed, granted life, receive His mercy and His gracious dealings in our lives. We are given lov- ing kindness, provided di- rection, justice and per- fect judgment. We receive understanding for life, our prayers heard and re- ceived, and we are pro- vided with deliverance. Ponder this: All of the promises and prayers of faith, listed below, are found in this one Psalm. The awesome truth is that these Scriptures are only a partial list of the prom- ises of God found in Psalm 119. Just think — If this one Psalm gives so much insight for God's people, how can we only spend a few minutes at a time in the Word of God? May we not miss out on all of the blessings that our Lord is extending to us through His written word — God's love letter to His people. Take a moment — or more — to meditate on these words of God's faith- fulness found in Psalm 119. "My soul clings to the dust; Revive me according to Your word," in Verse 25. "Strengthen me accord- ing to Your word," in Verse 28. "Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, And revive me in Your way," adorns Verse 37. "Let Your mercies come also to me, O Lord — Your salvation according to Your word," per Verse 41. Verse 42 gives us, "So shall I have an answer for him who reproaches me. For I trust in Your word.," and Verse 50, "This is my com- fort in my affliction, For Your word has given me life." "I entreated Your favor with my whole heart; Be merciful to me according to Your word," is in Verse 58, and Verse 65 de- clares, "You have dealt well with Your servant O Lord, according to Your word." Verse 76 pleads but reminds as well, "Let, I pray, Your merciful kindness be for my com- fort, According to Your word to Your servant." Verses 76, 88, and 107 do it again, "Revive me accord- ing to Your loving kind- ness… Revive me, O Lord, according to Your word," as do Verses 116 and 133, "Uphold me according to Your word, that I may live… Direct my steps by Your word." Verses 149, 154, and 156 remind us of the Lord our Advocate, "O Lord revive me according to Your jus- tice… Plead my cause and redeem me; Revive me ac- cording to Your word… Great are Your tender mer- cies, O Lord; Revive me according to Your judg- ments." Verses 159, 169, and 170 put it in the con- text of His character, "Consider how I love Your precepts; Revive me, O Lord, according to Your loving kindness… Let my cry come before You, O Lord; Give me understand- ing according to Your word… Let my supplica- tion come before You; De- liver me according to Your word." God's Word is valued far above gold. We should be faithful prospectors in finding all of His promises to the body of Christ — the church. Will we search the Bible for ourselves? While we wait, we miss the bless- ing of being taught per- sonally, by the Holy Spirit. "The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoic- ing the heart; the com- mandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for- ever; The judgments of the Lord are true and righ- teous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold, Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb" (Psalm 19:10). "More precious than gold is also mentioned in 1 Peter 1:7 — "that the genu- ineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ." A reasonable and worth- while question for our heart to answer is — What am I going to do with God's Word in 2015? Will I grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Je- sus Christ? Or, will I be swept away in the ever increasing tide of this world's mundane activi- ties? Jesus said, "… I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly (John 10:10). Are we to halt between two opinions? The Father asks, "… How long will you falter between two opin- ions? If the Lord is God, follow Him, but if Baal, follow him" (1 Kings 18:21). But the Son interjects, "Be- hold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me" (Revela- tion 3:20). May the body of Christ be greatly blessed during a season of heart prepara- tion time in 2015. GOD TALK His wonderful word in 2015 Martin By Michelle L. Price The Associated Press SALTLAKECITY A Republi- can-controlled Senate com- mittee in the Utah Legisla- ture offered its unanimous and at times emotional sup- port for a proposal to pro- tect gay and transgender in- dividuals as the landmark measure passed its first test. Todd Weiler, a Republi- can senator from Woods Cross, said he comes from "a conservative, Mormon background" but he's met many transgender individ- uals, including one in his neighborhood who grew up with his son. "I don't understand those things," Weiler said, "I un- derstand that those peo- ple are different than I am, and that they have rights, and I am 100 percent con- vinced that they should be protected." Weiler, who fought to stay composed, said the bill would send a message to young people struggling with their identity. The bill, which has earned the rare stamp of approval from the Utah- based Mormon church, bars discrimination against gay and transgender individ- uals while protecting the rights of religious groups and individuals. With Thursday's ap- proval, it advances to the full Senate. Republican Gov. Gary Herbert said Thursday that if the bill makes it to his desk, he'll sign it. Drafters of the bill said they hope it serves as a model for other states. Idaho state Sen. Cherie Buckner-Webb, a Demo- cratic lawmaker who has pushed to get an anti- LGBT discrimination mea- sure passed for years, said Utah's proposal gives her hope. "It's encouraging to see a state moving forward," Buckner-Webb said. "Utah has many similarities with Idaho. It's inevitable that it will happen here." During a two-hour hear- ing Thursday in Salt Lake City, lawmakers heard from gay and transgender resi- dents who described their fears and experiences. Neca Allgood, of Syra- cuse, appeared with her 20-year-old child Grayson Moore, who is transgender. "I want him to be hired and promoted on the basis of his ability, effort and edu- cation, rather than his gen- der identity," Allgood said. They also heard from re- ligious and conservative groups who spoke against the measure. Several conservative sen- ators supporting the bill said they felt it provides equally strong protections for LGBT people as it does for the religious. The proposal prohibits discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation when it comes to housing or employ- ment. Religious groups and organizations would be exempt from the re- quirement, as would their affiliates. For example, Brigham Young University, a pri- vate school owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, would be exempt. Beyond banning dis- crimination based on iden- tity and sexual orientation, the proposal stipulates that employers can adopt "rea- sonable dress and groom- ing standards" and "rea- sonable rules and polices" for sex-specific restrooms and other facilities, as long as those standards also in- clude accommodations for gender identity.
