ByKyleHightower TheAssociatedPress ORLANDO, FLA. Close games haven't turned out well for the Orlando Magic over the past few weeks. They're hoping their finish Friday night against the Sac- ramento Kings will start a new trend. Victor Oladipo had 32 points, 10 assists and five steals and the Magic held on to beat the Kings 119-114. Channing Frye added 22 points and 10 rebounds, and Elfrid Payton had 10 points and 12 assists to help the Magic snap a four-game losing streak. It was Oladipo's second straight 30-point game. Orlando lost its previous three games that were decided by single digits. The Magic led by as many as 18 before the Kings rallied down the stretch. Sacramento briefly took two one-point leads, but Orlando was able to preserve the victory with some clutch 3s by Frye and Tobias Harris. "We're learning how to close out games, how to win close games," Magic interim coach James Borrego said. "We saw some growth tonight. ... We trusted each other to move the ball, and that last play with Vic and Tobias was a reflection of the night. What was even more im- pressive was that the Magic did it with five players out due to injury, including center Nik Vucevic, who sat with a sore NBA Oladiposcores32as MagicholdoffKings Gay leads Sacramento with 39 points in dropping fourth in last five games JOHNRAOUX—THEASSOCIATEDPRESS The Orlando Magic's Victor Oladipo (5) makes a shot against the Sacramento Kings' DeMarcus Cousins during the second half Friday in Orlando, Fla. Kendall Graveman is off to a solid start in his bid to make the Oakland Ath- letics' season-opening rotation. After rocketing through the minors last season with To- ronto, the 24-year-old right- hander gave up two hits in two scoreless innings Friday in the A's 7-2 victory over Arizona, his first big-league spring training appearance. "No nervousness, just a little bit extra adrenaline," he said. Graveman was in Toronto's minor league camp a year ago. "I threw 21 innings last spring training and I felt great," he said. "I think that's kind of where it all started, to go out there and have some success in my first spring training and just keep it rolling." He began last season at Class A Lansing and had stops at all four Toronto minor league levels before making five relief appear- ances for the Blue Jays. Along the way, he picked up a cutter that, combined with his sinking fastball, made him effec- tive against major league hitting and set the stage for his shot at making the A's rotation. He came to Oakland as part of trade that sent Josh Donaldson to Toronto. Despite a cast on his left arm, the perenni- ally optimistic Hunter Pence ar- rived upbeat in the San Francisco clubhouse on Friday. The Giants outfielder is ex- pected to miss six to eight weeks after a pitch by Chicago Cubs prospect Corey Black fractured his left forearm on Thursday. "I heal pretty fast, generally, usually quicker than I'm sup- posed to," Pence said. Black, a 23-year-old who spent last season in Double-A reached out to Pence on Twitter and apol- ogized, saying he hopes the star heals quickly. Pence has played in 383 con- secutive games — the longest ac- tive streak in the majors — since the Giants got him in a trade from Philadelphia in July 2012. The string is all but over with the World Series champions set to open April 6 at Arizona. Minus the 31-year-old Pence, the Giants could start the season with an outfield of newcomer Nori Aoki, Angel Pagan and Gregor Blanco. Juan Perez, who hit .170 in 61 games last season, started in Pence's right field spot Friday against Texas. Pence hit .277 with 20 home runs and 74 RBIs last year. He also scored 106 runs, added 29 doubles and a career-high 10 tri- ples, and stole 13 bases. Pence then batted .444 in the World Series as the Giants beat Kansas City in seven games. The Giants, who have won three championships in the last five years, were already heading into this season missing the big bat of former World Series MVP Pablo Sandoval, who signed with Boston. Pence said he had a good night's rest despite the cast on his left hand that has his elbow immobilized at a 45-degree angle. "I did some research on how I'm supposed to sleep," Pence said. "I just propped it up on a pillow BASEBALL Giants' Pence still upbeat in clubhouse despite injury Red Bluff, Corning and Mercy's golf teams will participate in the Oroville Par 3on Monday at Table Mountain Golf Club.
