ALPHA NU's Alpha Nu Chapter of Sigma Chi P.O. Box 201225 Austin, TX 78720 Address Service Requested Connect with Alpha Nu Online www.texassigmachi.org Facebook: Texas Sigma Chi 8 Nick Schneider '13 throws a punch in his bout. A Knock-Out Performance Alpha Nu Sets Unprecedented Record Raising More Than $100,000 for Fight Night F ight Night. Two words that bring a grin to the face of every Sigma Chi. In November, however, the Alpha Nu Chapter was able to use Fight Night to bring a smile to the faces of a lot more people than usual. Fight Night Chairman Derrick Porter '12 coordinated the effort that raised more than $100,000 through sponsorships, donations from alumni, and ticket sales. The six-figure mark completely shattered the $40,000 raised in 2013, and even doubled the $50,000 goal for the event in 2014. This great achievement would not have been possible without the generous support of Alpha Nu alumni, who not only attended the event, but also raised funds themselves for the Chapter's philanthropic partners. We would like to specifically thank Rich Jochetz '80 for coordinating a large fundraising effort in memory of fallen brothers and Pete Bell, Epsilon Phi '90, and Duke Austin, Epsilon Phi '90, for their individual contributions. Staying true to tradition, the night consisted of 11 amateur boxing bouts with boxers representing 20 different UT clubs and organizations. After training for months, boxers faced off under professional lighting, were judged by USA Boxing officials, and were cheered on by over 2,000 attendees. As if this weren't enough, the boxing bouts were followed by a performance from major hip-hop artist 2Chainz. The event ran smoothly with a level of management and logistical sophistication that is only to be expected of Alpha Nu Chapter. The major recipients of the fundraising effort include the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation and the Huntsman Cancer Foundation, two national cancer research institutes. So through the efforts of Derrick Porter, the rest of the Alpha Nu Chapter, and alumni, this year's Fight Night is not only bringing a smile to the face of Sigma Chis in Austin, but also perhaps to a child with leukemia in Oregon or a mother with breast cancer in Georgia. The Alpha Nu Chapter's commitment to philanthropy was proven in a major way last fall, and it will be extremely exciting to see what we accomplish next. f SAVE THE DATE The Audrey Freeman Classic golf tournament will be held on April 25 at Hyatt Wolfdancer Golf Club.
