Hector Sanchez's physical on Wednes- day was scheduled for 1:30 p.m. local time. But maybe San- chez, excited as he was to be at spring training on the day the world champion San Fran- cisco Giants began reporting, was simply eager to receive a clean bill of health and get back to being behind the plate. The 25-year-old catcher, or someone else, had scribbled Sanchez's name into a pair of earlier time slots for the physical. The routine checkup wasn't expected to reveal any- thing more than confirmation that Sanchez, coming back from two concussions that cut short his 2014 season, is back to 100 percent. "Two hundred percent," he said with a laugh. Sanchez had been the Gi- ants' backup catcher until late July, when he suffered his first concussion. Then, while on a rehab assignment at Triple- A Fresno on Aug. 16, he took a hard foul tip off his mask, which led to a second concus- sion. By Antonio Gonzalez The Associated Press OAKLAND A little ragged and out of rhythm, the Golden State Warriors and their All-Star con- tingent returned to the prac- tice floor Wednesday night after a weeklong break that was any- thing but for most of them. Stephen Curry, Klay Thomp- son, coach Steve Kerr and his staff got two days of real rest following All-Star festivities in New York. They did their best to recharge and refocus, and Kerr said he pushed players in practice as hard as he has since training camp to begin preparing them for the sea- son's stretch run. "We've turned the corner in terms of the dog days. These guys should all be refreshed," Kerr said. "Most of them got away and had a good time and relaxed and now the finish line is in sight. And we know what's beyond that. That's where it really gets exciting." The Warriors, an NBA-best 42- 9, are hardly easing back anyway. Here are some things to know about what's going on at Daytona International Speedway, where drivers are pre- paring for Sunday's season-open- ing Daytona 500: EARLY WRECK Danica Patrick and Denny Hamlin wrecked dur- ing Daytona 500 practice Wednes- day. Patrick's No. 10 Chevrolet sus- tained enough damage that she was forced to switch to a backup car and will have to start at the back of the field in the second of two qualifying races Thursday. Hamlin's No. 11 Toyota was re- pairable. Patrick and Hamlin started the pileup by making contact com- ing out of the second turn. Casey Mears, Michael Annett and Jeb Burton also were involved. Patrick called it "the nature of pack racing" while Hamlin said "you always have to give a little bit extra room in practice." But nei- ther driver took full blame, with Hamlin calling it a "miscalcula- tion one way or another on one of our parts."
