StaffReports PALOCEDRO Daisy Brose set a Lady Spartans record Tuesday, connecting on eight 3-pointers as Red Bluff won at Foothill 61-57. Brose finished with 37 points, the third-highest scoring game ever for a Lady Spartan. She also had five rebounds and three steals. The only two Lady Spartans to score more points in a single game for Red Bluff had great seats to watch Brose's Tuesday perfor- mance. Assistant coach Angie Weir scored 39 for the Lady Spartans in 1987 and head coach Kathy Brandt had a 38-point game the following year against Oroville. Just as important for the Lady Spartans on Tuesday were key free throws made by Katie Galla- gher and Allyson Drury down the stretch to seal the win. Gallagher finished with five points and Drury had four points and three steals. Ashley Exum chipped in with nine points. Allison Winning and Stefanie Brunello each had three points The Lady Spartans (13-10, 6-4) host Enterprise at 7:30 p.m. to- night. By Antonio Gonzalez The Associated Press The Sacramento Kings and George Karl have agreed to the framework of a deal for him to take over as coach, a person familiar with the negotia- tions said Wednesday. The person spoke to The Associ- ated Press on condition of anonym- ity because the discussions were pri- vate. The plan is for Karl to coach the Kings in their first game fol- lowing the All-Star break Feb. 20 at home against Boston, meaning Ty- rone Corbin will be coaching his fi- nal game for Sacramento on Wednes- day night at Milwaukee. Karl is attending funeral services for former North Carolina coach Dean Smith this week. The Kings are expected to announce the deal in the coming days after final terms have been agreed upon and the con- tract has been signed. Karl will be Sacramento's third coach this season. The Kings (18-33) made the sur- prising move to fire Michael Malone in December after an 11-13 start in his second season as coach, even though they had shown progress un- til All-Star center DeMarcus Cous- ins was sidelined for an extended period with viral meningitis. Sacra- mento slid even further after promot- ing Corbin from lead assistant, los- ing 12 of its last 14 games and 20 of 27 overall since Malone's dismissal. Karl is a proven winner in the league and a familiar face for Sacra- mento's front office. Kings general manager Pete D'Alessandro and assistant gen- eral manager Mike Bratz are among those who worked with him in Den- ver, and team adviser Chris Mullin played for Karl with the Golden State Warriors from 1986-88. Karl last coached in the 2012-13 season, when he won NBA Coach of the Year with the Nuggets before be- ing fired following a first-round play- off loss to the Warriors. Iguodala scored just eight points on 4-for-4 shooting and Barbosa had 10 points, but they spearheaded an energized second unit that picked up the slack for their sluggish starters. Stephen Curry had 25 points on 9-for-23 shooting for Golden State (42-9), which goes into the All-Star break with the best record in the NBA. Kevin Martin scored 21 points and Ricky Rubio had 18 points, nine rebounds and five assists for the Timberwolves (11-42), who ral- lied from a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter to tie the game. Dell Curry recalls his son tag- ging along with him before and after games with the Charlotte Hornets, learning from 5-foot-3 Muggsy Bogues how an under- sized player can be successful. "Steph knew he wasn't going to be 7-feet tall. He knew he was go- ing to be a point guard," Dell said. Mychal Thompson retired after 12 years in the league, winning two titles with the Los Angeles Lakers, before his son could see him play. But he stayed close to the franchise and his teammates, allowing Klay to be around some of the game's greatest players. "He could go in the gym and Kobe Bryant is there and he could pick his brain.
