MARKETING/SALES Hal Nunn ASSOCIATE EDITOR Stephanie Crider PUBLISHER Bill Bowman INSIDE PUBLISHER'S PEN by BILL BOWMAN I know. You have no idea what horses and hospitality have in common. Well, in the next couple of minutes I will try to bridge them together by commenting and comparing how both positively impact the image of the Fayetteville community. But fi rst, I want to recognize an extremely valuable, but elusive segment of the hospitality industry, The Fayetteville Area Hospitality Association, or FAHA as it is affectionately known. This valuable organization is made up of dedicated local hotel/motel management professionals along with many industry related businesses and organizations who specialize in hospitality. These professionals actually help in defi ning what Fayetteville hospitality really is. These talented folks are Fayetteville's fi rst line of offense when visitors and guests come into our community. They set the tone for the visitors fi rst impression of our community. In addition to the hotels, members like the Crown Coliseum, Enterprise Car Rental and the Fayetteville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB)contribute to making sure visitors and guests have a good experience here once they arrive. However, little known to the community, FAHA does much more. This organization takes hospitality to the extreme to give back to the community. Most recently, Up & Coming Weekly partnered with FAHA in its annual fundraiser in support of Falcon Children's Home, an orphanage located in northeastern Cumberland County. Fayetteville's Weather Forecast October 28 Fayetteville's Weather Forecast Friday Thursday October 27 Saturday October 29 The sight of Fayetteville's Finest on these beautiful animals provided novelty and uniqueness to our community With the support of dozens of local businesses and organizations, FAHA's golf tournament at Kings Grant allowed them to donate more than $10,000 to the children of Falcon. Very impressive and appropriate for an organization that is dedicated to perfecting the art of hospitality. As in everything else, leadership is the key here. And though many people are involved with the success of FAHA, there is a group of involved professionals whose dedication and hard work in this industry takes the art of hospitality to new heights. They are: Ramona Moore of Embassy Suites, Michelle Williams and Adam Collier of Candlewood Suites, Carolyn Swait from the Crown Coliseum and Myron Jones of the Fayetteville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, just to name a few. All are assets to Fayetteville and Cumberland County. Oh, the horses? I'm referring to Fayetteville police offi cers on horseback who patrolled downtown. Yes, they are gone and I miss them. I miss them because, like hospitality, the horses also helped to uniquely defi ne our city. The sight of Fayetteville's Finest on these beautiful animals provided novelty and uniqueness to our community. This, like hospitality, served to defi ne who we are and what we are about. Soldiers Sanctuary, All America City and a community of History, Heroes and Hometown Feeling. It all starts with a smile and friendly hello. Thanks for reading Up & Coming Weekly.
