4A Daily News – Wednesday, October 5, 2011 Commerce business Lengtat Family Chiro- practic in Red Bluff has expanded its business to include Corning. The business accepts insurance payments and is a Medicare provider. It offers a sliding scale for those who apply and meet the federal guidelines. Lengtat has been a Chiropractor since 2003. He completed four years of pre-med curriculum at Vanguard University fol- lowed by another four years of graduate study including three years internship at Life Chiro- practic College in Hay- ward. Lengtat holds a National Board Certifica- tion and received advanced training in Instrument adjusting. "I enjoy being in the city of Corning," said Lengtat. Eighty percent of success is show- ing up – Woody Allen In remarks at the Chamber Awards Banquet late last month I made an allusion to a Chamber of Commerce membership being like belonging to a gym or a health club. I think the com- parison works. When one joins a health club, one usually does so with an objective in mind: To lose weight, tone up, get that cardio workout your doctor tells you should be part of your daily routine 3-4 times a week. If you par- ticipate (i.e., go to the gym) on a regu- lar basis, you're in the running to achieve your objective. If you don't show up, you have zero chance of achieving your goal. I doubt if people who have joined health clubs – but never go – ever com- plain to friends over coffee that they paid good money to join the gym, but they're still overweight or out of shape, holding the health club responsible. Within some Chamber member- ships elsewhere, there are folks who do complain that they have paid their dues, but ask "what has the Chamber done for my business?" I have been active in several Chambers in other markets over the past few decades, and have never found a member who asked that question the past three decades who was active on a Chamber committee or frequently attended Chamber networking events. Since membership in the RB-TC Chamber has increased by more 30% since CEO Dave Gowan was engaged some 18 months ago, I would guess there's not so much muttering to that effect among our membership. Previously Lengtat owned a practice in Red- Even if that's true, it's still worth reminding Chamber members that just as with a health club membership, benefits of belonging to the Chamber increase exponen- tially the more active in the organization a member becomes. Even if you did not join the Chamber with a specific objective, it's never too late to set one – or more. Let's say you work at a business the success of which depends on the patronage or referral of other business- es. Good Morning Red Bluff, held the last Thursday of every month, offers the opportunity for any attendee to share with the three or four dozen other attendees what's going on at his or her business. Hang around for an extra 10-15 minutes and talk with other attendees who had interesting things to say. Bring your business cards and give them to new folks you meet. The Chamber's "Business After Hours" mixers, which should be resuming soon, offer the same kind of monthly opportunity in a more free- flowing setting. Does your business depend on ser- vice to new or expanding businesses? We're getting closer to an actual launch of a Chamber Ambassadors' committee. Lariat Bowl's GM Chris Goddard will chair (as soon as I finish the bylaws and application forms and the Chamber Exec Committee approves). An Ambassador is often the first business or professional person a new or expanding business operator meets. Most businesses depend on staying top-of-mind with the public at large to ensure they earn their share of discre- enterprise Chiropractor expands to Corning ding but wanted to pro- vide chiropractic care to the community where he was born, Red Bluff. Lengtat has always held a vision of contribut- ing to his community. His goals of honesty and integrity are carried out in his daily interactions with patients. He enjoys hik- ing, camping and taking walks with his family. He has a wife, 7-year-old son and a 12-week-old daughter. He attends a Bible study with his son and is a member of Sun- rise Bible Fellowship in Red Bluff. Corning office hours are Monday: 9 a.m. to noon.; Tuesdays: 2-6 p.m. and Thursdays: 9 a.m. to noon. When Chamber member-volun- teers work a booth at the Round-Up or assist with a chamber sponsored event like the hot air balloon rally at Ribs, Rods and Rides, they often wear name tags or logo clothing that identifies them with the business where they work, while they interface with dozens or even hundreds of current and poten- tial customers. Engaging with other business peo- ple and professionals who serve the same market that you do builds a net- work of personal acquaintances with a wide variety of expertise. Over time, active Chamber members find that they have a friend or two in the bank- ing business, the media, computer repair, real estate, auto repair, hospital- ity, retail sales and so on. And most say they have fun socializing with other active Chamber members – just as folks who belong to the same health club – and show up -- often become friends outside of that venue. Hope to see you or an employee from your business at a Chamber event soon. I'll likely be there. What I need to do is make time to get to the gym more often.
