DECEMBER 10-16, 2014 UCW 15 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM CUMBERLAND co.cumberland.nc.us Former state lawmaker Glenn Jernigan was inducted into the Cumberland County Agricultural Hall of Fame on Nov. 21 during the annual Farm City Week program held by the Cumberland County Cooperative Extension and the Kiwanis Club of Fayetteville. The event was held in the I.B. Julian Auditorium in the Charlie Rose Agri-Expo Center, where the Hall of Fame is located. Jernigan was honored for his years of public service and contributions to agriculture in the county and state. He served two terms in the North Carolina House of Representatives; three terms in the state senate; and was the Chairman of the North Carolina Employment Security Commission for four years. He is the founder and owner of Glenn Jernigan & Associates, a governmental affairs consulting firm. Chris Hall was recognized as the 2014 Cumberland County Farm Bureau Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year. Hall is the son of James Ray and Kim Hall and a fourth-generation farmer in the Beaver Dam community. Jernigan Inducted Into Ag Hall of Fame Incoming Chairman Kenneth Edge presents a plaque to the outgoing chairman, Commissioner Jeannette Council. Commissioners Sworn In, Edge Is Chairman Four Cumberland County Commissioners accepted the oath of office Dec. 1 during the Board of Commissioners meeting. Newcomers Glenn Adams and Larry Lancaster were sworn in along with returning Commissioners Jeannette Council and Charles Evans. The new board elected Kenneth Edge to serve as chairman and Marshall Faircloth as vice chairman for 2015. Adams, who represents District 1, is an attorney who has practiced law in Fayetteville since 1988. Council also represents District 1 and has served as a commissioner since 2000. She served as the 2014 chair and recognized outgoing commissioners Billy R. King and Ed Melvin, both of whom also received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. Evans is an at-large representative serving his second term on the board. He served two terms on the Fayetteville City Council from 2005-2009. Lancaster, an at-large representative, retired from Cumberland County Schools in 1992 and previously served 18 years on the County Board of Education. Edge, who represents District 2, was first elected in 2000 and is serving his third term as chairman. He is a retired school administrator. Faircloth and Jimmy Keefe also represent District 2 on the board. Faircloth is now serving his second term as vice chairman.
