ΣΦΕ The SigEp Seminole FLORIDA EPSILON s FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY s SIGMA PHI EPSILON Fall 2014 INSIDE: Executive Officers 2 s Mom Scott Scholarship Recipients 3 s Welcome, New Members 3 (Continued on page 2) A Bright Future in Store for Florida Epsilon T he Chapter has gotten off to a strong start this school year with over 30 new members this fall, including the 2,000th member of Florida Epsilon! The Chapter now has 128 members, which is close to what we feel is the optimal size. With a GPA requirement of 3.0 to receive a bid, the men look for quality over quantity. Since Florida Epsilon is now a Balanced Man Program (see www.sigep.org for more details), we are likely the only fraternity at Florida State that no longer uses a pledge model for new members. All potential new members enjoy full membership rights upon joining and all members are involved in continuous personal development activities. This approach is a major selling point during the recruitment process. The AVC continues to work with the Chapter to finalize the rechartering process. We had hoped to receive the charter this fall, but there are a few areas still being worked on with the help of our national office that may push it back to early 2015. Hopefully, the charter banquet will be held this winter. We will let you know the details when it is scheduled. The AVC held its fall elections in mid-November for officers and board members. Rob Atkisson '93 was elected president, Tom Grigsby '02 vice president, Matt Bennett '95 secretary, Scott Lato '94 treasurer, and board members: David Norman '72, Mike Hugunin '75, and John Dockstader '87. I have enjoyed working with the Chapter and alumni for the past two years, but it is time to let someone new step in. As always, please let us know if you would like to get involved with the AVC in supporting the Chapter and increasing alumni programs. Fraternally, Mike Hugunin '75 Outgoing AVC President (850) 656-0209 / mehugunin@aol.com F or Florida Epsilon, this semester has been very exciting. As reigning National Champions, the 2014 football season has been awesome to experience in Tallahassee. Our tailgates are always packed and home football games have been crazy! SigEp Maintains Philanthropic Success In November we hosted our annual fall philanthropy, Sorority Wars. For this fundraiser, sororities register teams of six women to compete in a series of challenges and events, such as tug of war, egg toss, and sack races. All the money we raise is donated to the FSU Collegiate Veterans Association in support of programs and services for student veterans. New Leadership on the Horizon Throughout the month of November, we also conducted elections for the fraternity's 2015 executive board. We are excited to see who will continue the leadership of our beloved fraternity and will update you all when elections have concluded.
