Founded 1912 • Michigan alpha chapter oF SigMa phi epSilon at the univerSity oF Michigan • Fall 2014 ICHIGAN ALPHA CENTENNIAL CAMPAIGN H ave you considered the impact your gift would have on Michigan Alpha? More than 250 alumni and friends have responded to the campaign, and 25 of those donors stepped up in 2014. We are grateful for all our donors and volunteers who demonstrate what it means to be a lifelong member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. However, the future of Michigan Alpha cannot rely on the support from the previous years—our success hinges on the continued involvement of our current donors and of the new participation we hope to see from the nearly 900 brothers who have yet to give. Where Is Your Pledge Card? Have you put your pledge card away to be dealt with later? Has it been misplaced? In whatever D r. Michael Wood '85 BS, '88 MD first connected with the Michigan Alpha chapter when his older brother, Bill Wood '78 BS, '84 MBA, played a role in re-establishing the house in the 1970s. "I joined SigEp since the men had great balance; they were fun, sports focused, and had good GPA's." "SigEp helped me learn how to be a team member with guys of different backgrounds, educational aspirations, and experiences." Mike recalls moments of teamwork with his SigEp brothers, including grilling and selling hotdogs before football games on the corner of Hill and State. Mike and his SigEp brothers also won the All Sports Championship in 1983. Now that Mike has relocated to Ann Arbor, he hopes to become more active as an alumnus. "I am thankful that Doug Ilgenfritz '84 and Dennis Howell '83 reached out to me to support the capital campaign." Mike encourages other alumni to contribute what they can to the capital campaign so the members can have as positive of an experience as he did. "Remember how much being in the house and being a SigEp meant to you." Mike keeps in touch with many of his brothers by visiting them, attending football games together, and taking canoe trips. "Two of my best friends in the world are my SigEp brothers, Fritz Hyde '85 and Paul Thomas '85; I spend time with them regularly." Mike resides in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He is an associate professor of pediatrics and the clinical director of the Pediatric Diabetes Program at the C.S. Mott Children's Hospital. He spends his spare time woodworking and renovating his new home in Ann Arbor. He also attends the Michigan football and basketball games. Mike's wife of 28 years, Maureen, and their children, Andy, Tim, and Mary, all attended the University of Michigan. Mike offers the same words of wisdom to SigEp undergraduates that he would share with his own children. "Make sure you do your best in everything you do. Being a good student, athlete, friend, or brother is always about the effort."
