Fifteen brothers spent time building affordable housing in a low-income area of Detroit. This summer we were also fortunate to send Brother Henry Adams '17 to the Ruck Leadership Institute. During a five-day, high- intensity leadership conference, Henry gained skills and experience that have already made a positive impact on our chapter. Recruitment held priority for our chapter during the first few weeks of the semester. As always, the Balanced Man Scholarship acted as our leading recruitment tool. Three men, out of 250 applicants, received the Balanced Man Scholarship this year. Prior to formal recruitment, we received a visit from our new regional director, Patrick Gallagher. He held a recruitment workshop and 15 brothers attended. They focused on defining the ideal SigEp member, techniques for finding potential new members on campus, and effective recruitment interactions. Patrick also worked with the executive board on strategies for accomplishing our goals for this semester and beyond. Patrick's visit left the chapter feeling optimistic. When we are not studying and recruiting, Michigan Alpha competes for the fraternity league intramural championship. The first round of intramural sports this semester consisted of softball, indoor soccer, and volleyball. We would like to thank everyone who helped Michigan Alpha have a successful semester. In particular, thanks to Matt Ngo, Texas Christian University '12, and Patrick Murphy, Northeastern University '10, for running a quick and organized move-in day. We thank Lauren Campbell for her continued guidance and support of Michigan Alpha; she is our greatest ally.
