Page 8 We Art Guild updates held our meeting Thursday Sept. 1st at 6:30pm at the Senior Center in Quartzsite. We enjoyed watching a couple of Jerry Yarnell Fine Art tapes. The first was on COLORS; mixing, us- ing the color wheel to learn good com- position planning. The next meet will be on Thursday, Sept. 15th at 6:30pm. We plan on showing you how to paint a beauti- ful sunset using acrylics also using a tape of Jerry Yarnell for instruction. For that week please bring brushes, a canvas board or a Masonite board and acrylic or oil paints if you have or we can share. September 7, 2011 neMeet Mike Jewitt Quartzsite, AZ- w council member On Aug. 9, 2011 the Quartzsite Town Council appointed Mike Jewitt to fill the vacancy of Jose Lizarraga, who resigned to run against Ed Foster in the mayoral recall election. Mike Jewitt was born in Gilling- ham, England. He attended state schools until the family emigrated to the USA. He lived in the Boston suburbs and was sworn in as a citizen of the United States at Boston MA in 1962 and short- ly thereafter enlisted in the U.S.Navy. After being honorably discharged on medical, he moved to Carmel, Calif. and began a 36 year career in the airline business. Jewitt married Carol with three daughters and together they had a daughter and son. After retiring in 2000, the Jew- itts travelled the country in their motor home and purchased land in Quartzsite. After Carol died in 2006, Mike travelled before set- tling back in Quartzsite. Longtime friend, Marie and Mike were mar- ried in 2007 with the blessings of all children. In 2008, they pur- chased a new home on the land, and have lived there happily ever since. The Jewitts are active in the Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
