INDIANA DELTA CHANGES CHAPTER MENTALITY Undergraduates Commit to Philanthropic Efforts T he Indiana Delta Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon has reached a turning point in its lifetime. The recent history of the chapter is far from spectacular; however, our goal is to create an establishment of distinct gentlemen who challenge themselves to a higher intellectual and moral standard, a home for the humble, and a haven for the open-minded. We want to become a positive force on campus that is reliable and well-respected for our deeds, leaving behind a house that many more can enjoy. The air of apathy no longer exists within our chapter walls as the men respect our home and ritual. Brothers have taken charge in leadership positions with no experience or training by creating their own programs and learning through their own trials, paving the way for those who follow. I feel constantly refreshed knowing my greatest friends are standing by my side to create something wholly good. One of the chapter's main goals is to start a strong tradition of philanthropy. In the past, very little was done in terms of giving back to the community. From my perspective, we have the resources and manpower to make a positive change in the lives of those in need, so it would be a waste not to. This year, we are starting a weekly tradition called True Gentleman Tuesday. Every Tuesday, the chapter bands together to perform community service around Greencastle. Recently, the brothers traveled to DePauw's Campus Farm to help pick produce for a few hours. Last week, we supported children from local Ridpath Elementary School in their annual food drive. Along with jumpstarting TG Tuesdays, brothers have been active supporting other philanthropy events around campus. In September, we set up and ran a fried food stand for neighboring sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma's philanthropy, Kappa Karnival. Much of the excitement and drive heading into the semester is thanks to SAE F&H's upgrades on our chapter house. They installed new insulation, walls, ceilings, an HVAC system, security system, and a fire alarm system, among countless other details. The hard work from F&H has given the gentlemen of the Indiana Delta a home to be proud of and a home base to springboard off in the coming years.
