CHI PSI • UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON • FALL 2014 A T h e r e T ê Chi Psi Nears $925,000 Your Help Is Still Needed to Reach Our $1 Million Goal I am pleased to announce that our Building on a Tradition of Excellence campaign has reached $924,796 en route to our target of $1 million. I would like to thank those brothers who have generously supported this campaign through their contributions and pledges. I encourage those brothers who have not made contributions to do so. As you already know, the purpose of this campaign is to build an on-site annex that will house 15 Chi Psi brothers. This annex will be located next to the Lodge along the north property line. Why we are building this annex? There are several very good reasons: (1) The new annex will eliminate the need for expensive off-site housing. We have been paying rent in excess of $110,000 per year for a remote annex. The financial plan for this project can reduce that rent cost significantly. Our current project cost is estimated at $1,750,000. With $1,000,000 from campaign contributions, we would need to finance about $750,000. At 5% interest, the annual finance cost would be $37,500. That is a savings of $72,500! (2) The new annex will provide state-of-the-art housing for 15 brothers. The rooms are designed for single occupancy with wireless Internet access throughout. This facility will help Chi Psi to be more competitive among the very best fraternities at the University of Washington. (3) The new annex will strengthen Chi Psi brotherhood. It is important for all undergraduate classes to reside at the Lodge. This will ensure continuation of our traditions and standards of excellence. The Lodge at 22nd Avenue NE is clearly the focal point of undergraduate life at Chi Psi. It has been the home for more than 900 initiates and it has provided important growth experiences. I certainly learned the importance of friendship, academic achievement, community service, and excellence. We are approaching the season of giving. Pledges and contributions at $5,000 or more are eligible for full tax deductibility though our Educational Foundation. Pledge payments can be spread over five years. You can also take advantage of our new online giving form at www.chipsi.kintera.org/campaign. Chi Psi at the University of Washington is flourishing and is deserving of your support. This is a unique opportunity to support your fraternity with a tax- deductible gift. Some of you may also have employers who will match your charitable contributions. Your support will help continue the tradition of excellence for the gentlemen of Chi Psi. YITB, Donald S. I am grateful for the mentoring I received and the opportunities Chi Psi provided me to develop skills that subsequently served me well throughout my business career. I know there were aspirations around the Lodge that we might become a candidate for the Thayer Award but, alas, that didn't come about. After graduation, I didn't do particularly well keeping in touch with the brothers as I embarked on a career, got married, and fulfilled my service obligation. Then about two years ago, I was approached to participate in the capital campaign. I was skittish at first, having had some experience with capital fundraising.
