ALUMNI NEWS T he first weekend in April 2014, 16 Alpha Mu Chapter Theta Chi alumni had a wonderful time exploring Austin, San Antonio, and Fredericksburg, Texas. The brothers and their wives have already planned two future reunions in Costa Rica and Colorado. Gerald R. Pollock '53 reports he doesn't have much news from Cedar Rapids. He is getting older, not driving much, has poor vision, but still does a little dancing, baseball, and reading. "Good luck and keep Theta Chi going." Philippe E. Meier '74 is an empty nester at age 62 and has seven grandchildren. He lives in Boone, Iowa, with his wife, Annette. E-mail: pameier31@aol.com David C. Bjustrom '84 has been remarried for 10 years now, has a daughter that is a senior at Iowa State studying animal science, and a stepson who is a sophomore at Iowa. He moved to the family farm in Whittemore about 15 years ago, and his dad still helps with the farming. David and his wife rented a cabin at Lost Island Lake and enjoy having the kids and grandkids up for boating and waterskiing. E-mail: dcbag@awcmail.com James R. Plagmann '84 reports his Eagle Rising home design was published in Eco Structure Magazine and won Best Custom Home and Best Overall Award in The ICF Builder Magazine Awards. James lives in Boulder, Colo. E-mail: jamesp824@gmail.com Timothy F. Hagg '85 has a daughter who is now a sophomore at ISU, a member of ADPi sorority and the ISU dance team. Steiner '88 is proud to be part of a unique Theta Chi alumni tradition. Next spring will mark the 29th consecutive year of joining the trout fishing trip in NE Iowa. The trip itself has been going 30+ years. Attendance has ranged from three to 35 members, all Theta Chis from ISU with graduation dates from 1980 to 1989. Thomas lives in Otley, Iowa. E-mail: steinertc@pella.com Gary A. Cave '92 and his wife of 21 years, Lisa, have two children, Christian and Catherine, and returned to Ames, Iowa, in 1999. Gary has been promoted to engineer, Shell global account manager with Mechdyne of Marshalltown, Iowa. He is responsible for promoting immersive, 3D virtual realization rooms, and audio visual systems to Shell Oil onshore command centers and offshore production platforms. Mechdyne is the company that built the virtualization room at the ISU engineering department. Gary is also an assistant scoutmaster and co-outdoor program coordinator assisting the Ames troop with planning and implementing monthly camps in Iowa, as well as out of state high adventure trips, including hiking, white water rafting, mountain biking, rock climbing, sailing, deep sea fishing, and scuba diving. Sean, still employed at Black and Veatch, worked as a project construction manager on the Kusile power station project, one of the largest energy infrastructure projects under construction in the world. In August 2014, Sean and family relocated to Overland Park, Kan. Sean and Kathy have two sons, Coy (11) and Brock (6).
