During the 2013-14 academic year, members volunteered over 4,300 hours of their time and donated over $34,000 toward charitable causes through fundraisers and benefit events. This fall, the chapter will continue its involvement with AISD and the Neighborhood Longhorns mentoring program, the Keep Austin Beautiful Adopt- a-Creek initiative, and UT IFC Movember competition. Already this semester Gamma Eta hosted a benefit concert featuring The Damn Quails. The event raised funds for The Candlelighters, a Houston-based organization that supports the needs of families facing childhood cancers. For the second consecutive year, Gamma Eta was awarded True Merit honorable mention. Chapter leaders also brought back new resources, provided by the national organization, to be incorporated into the operations of the organization. Gamma Eta was selected to be one of the first ATW chapters to use ChapterBuilder, a new recruitment site that has helped the rush team organize and focus their efforts this summer. The chapter was also encouraged to move forward with its proposed changes to the new member program. Beginning with the fall 2013 pledge class, all new members will be required to participate in at least one on-campus or local organization. The chapter hopes that this involvement will help develop future leaders while strengthening ties between Gamma Eta and other university groups.
