Theta Kite 2 T he Alpha Chi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta has pride in being identified with high academic achievement, leadership throughout campus, and community service. As we return this fall to the sounds of the bell tower and the Boilermaker Special that permeate Purdue, we will strive to uphold the four points of the kite. We are thrilled to say that we once again had the highest GPA within Panhellenic for the second consecutive semester. The Alpha Chis have worked hard academically while also making time to give back to Purdue and the Lafayette community. Collectively, our chapter completed 1,500 hours of community service and attended 15 philanthropic events last semester. We hosted our annual Theta-Fiji Grill-Off with Phi Gamma Delta in our parking lot on October 5. All proceeds from this event benefited the Tippicanoe County CASA. Last year, we raised over $9,000 and this year was another success! Alyssa Wick '10 has joined three other Alpha Chis as a CASA volunteer. CASA is an amazing cause, and it is great to see so many Thetas personally invested in it. Each year at Purdue, a Greek Gala is held, in which chapters are recognized for accomplishments made throughout the year. We are so proud to say that we were the winners of the Gamma Phi Beta Spirit Award, as well as the Dean Barbara Elsbury Award! The purpose of the Spirit Award is to foster relations and spirit between the sororities at Purdue. It is awarded to the chapter that excels in many areas while making connections with others in the Greek community. The Dean Barbara Elsbury Award is given to the best overall chapter and is based on recruitment, new member development, social development, scholastic excellence, leadership development, philanthropy and community service, alumnae relations, sisterhood, and chapter pride. Erin Whittaker '10 won the Panhellenic Senior Scholarship Award and Christina Burke '10 won the Flora Roberts Award for Outstanding Senior Girl and was chosen to give a commencement address. Read more about these women on www.alphachithetas.org. In June, six of our members attended Grand Convention in Orlando, Florida. It was an incredible experience that was filled with new friendships and great ideas to bring back to the chapter. We were honored and humbled to be named a Golden Kite Chapter for the second consecutive convention. We were also among eight chapters that were Founders Award finalists, the highest honor achievable as a college chapter within Kappa Alpha Theta. The awards we have received this past semester speak mountains for all the hard work the Alpha Chis have put in. I am truly grateful to have been given the opportunity to lead such an astounding group of women and have no doubt that each and every one of them will follow in the footsteps of our alumnae and uphold the legacy of Kappa Alpha Theta.
