Theta Artists and Authors D o you paint, sculpt, create designer jewelry, or write books? Join our Artists and Authors Showcase at the Purdue Theta Centennial Celebration May 22-24, 2015. This is an opportunity to display your artistic talents and sell your creations to sisters and guests during our festive gathering. We are interested in fine arts more than crafts for this special gallery. Please send an e-mail telling about your work and your website to the artists and authors co-chairs, Patty Lindbloom Schwegmann '00 at pattyschwegmann@ gmail.com and Kay Kenady Sanger '62 at ksanger56@gmail.com. We hope to hear from you soon and look forward to helping you share your creative endeavors with our sisters at the centennial celebration next May. Marilynn Bottomley Dammon '66 is wearing an Edwardian lawn dress, straw hat, and lace-up boots—popular attire in 1915 when our chapter was founded. An afternoon tea and vintage style show is planned for Saturday afternoon during the 100th anniversary celebration. T his summer found us funding a much needed maintenance project, and a more visible makeover, which the sisters have been requesting for several years. We surveyed the actives to see what areas of the house they think need attention. The FCB board carefully merges chapter desires with the budget and FCB priorities. This summer we replaced the original 1992 wood casement windows on the second and third floor with new vinyl clad double hung windows. The new windows are similar in appearance to the original windows, but will have a much longer life, so we won't have to replace them again anytime soon. The actives requested new Bum Room furniture, so this became our project with the remainder of our summer project budget: a total Bum Room makeover. We replaced the old carpeting with modular carpet in a large four-color pattern. We needed to replace the 1957 fluorescent fixtures, as the lamps were no longer available, thus all the lighting fixtures are new and, while we were at it, we added new fans and eliminated all wires across the ceiling. We added dehumidification for the Bum Room, Computer Room, and Chapter Room. In planning the Bum Room space, we divided it into four quadrants, while leaving the space open for large meetings and events. We used some contemporary classics in the space: gray and white Eames tables and chairs, and Frank Gehry magenta twisted cube side tables. The former kitchen space was replaced by a workout equipment closet. Be sure to have a look at our newest transformation this Homecoming or next spring when you come for the Centennial.
