With Calegari at the helm, Marin Roto-Rooter supports many community events and organizations, including the Boys and Girls Club of Marin and South- ern Sonoma Counties, the Marin Humane Society, the Marin YMCA and North Bay Children's Center. "The most rewarding part of my of my job is giving back to the community," she says, adding that she finds the success stories from Sunny Hills particularly touching. She is also concerned about the incidence of breast cancer locally. In June, she was on the pitcher's mound to throw the first ball on Pink Socks Night, part of a weekend the San Rafael Pacifics dedicated to breast cancer awareness. "I have relatives who have passed away from breast cancer," she says, so she dedicated her pitch to her late Auntie Lillian, who lost her life to the disease. The players wore specially designed pink dresses, reminiscent of the uniforms the women wore in the film "A League of their Own", and Marin Roto-Rooter was a sponsor, along with Marin General Hospital. This month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, all Roto-Rooter employees are wearing pink shirts. "The pink shirts are a given," says Calegari, observing that they have been well received and show the company cares about the county's victims. Marin Roto-Rooter has made donations to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in the past, and this year, it will again donate a percentage of its revenues to the cause, but this time to a local organization that supports breast cancer patients and survivors. Motherhood, business and community service take up most of Calegari's time.
