He moved over to third on a ground out and came home on Prado's opposite- field single to right off Javier Lopez (5-2). Prado's teammates charged out of the dugout and caught up him around second base, pelting him with dirt and the resin bag in what has become a familiar team tradition. The Braves lead the NL with 22 wins in the last at- bat. On Monday, Atlanta rallied from a 4-2 deficit in the ninth inning, beating the Giants 5-4 on Freddie Freeman's two-out, two- run single off Brian Wil- son. ''This is what I really love about this team,'' Prado said. ''We always go all the way to the end.'' Four San Francisco relievers combined to allow only six hits and one earned run in eight innings after Sanchez went down. ''That's a tough one but I'm proud of the staff,'' manager Bruce Bochy said. After delivering one that was nearly over the head of Michael Bourn, Sanchez limped off the mound and was replaced by Guillermo Mota. The left-hander was on crutch- es after the game; he hopes to try out the ankle in a couple of days to deter- mine if he can make his next start. ''It's disappointing what happened,'' Sanchez said. ''When I pressed on my ankle, I couldn't go.'' After replacing Sanchez, Mota gave up a two-out single to Bourn that drove in speedster Jose Constanza, the sur- prising sparkplug of the Braves offense. The 27- year-old career minor lea- guer reached on a bunt sin- gle and is hitting .403 since coming up to Atlanta in late June, playing so well that he's starting ahead of last year's rookie star, Jason Heyward. The Giants cut off the throw home and got Bourn in a rundown — and what a rundown it was. Bourn drew five throws running back and forth before get- ting tagged out on a weary, headfirst slide into first. Placed get Freeman scrambling back to first after a hit — but they couldn't score off another of the Braves' bright young prospects, Arodys Vizcaino (1-0). The 20-year-old picked up his first big league win with two scoreless innings. Manager Fredi Gonzalez gave him the game ball and the lineup sheet the Braves used in their dugout. Delgado looked right at home, too. He faced the minimum through six innings, the only baserun- ner reaching in the fourth when Mike Fontenot walked with one out, only to be erased on a nifty double play by the Braves. Second baseman Dan Uggla went to his knees to field a grounder by Pablo Sandoval, wheeled around and threw to second, where shortstop Alex Gonzalez made the relay throw while leaping over a sliding Fontenot. Gonzalez had hoped to get six innings out of the rookie, who made his major league debut on June 17 against defending AL champion Texas. Del- gado was a bit shaky in that one, giving up seven hits and three earned runs in four innings, taking the loss in a 6-2 setback. He pitched like a veter- an against the team that beat Texas in the World Series, mixing a mid-90s fastball with breaking pitches that had the Giants INF Chris Davis on the 15-day DL, retroactive to Aug. 15. Chris Stewart was so fooled while strik- ing out in the sixth, he flung his bat into the stands behind home plate. No one was hurt, fortu- nately. But Ross finally got to Delgado in the seventh. The right-hander threw three straight balls, man- aged a strike, then served up a 92 mph pitch that Ross launched deep into the left-field seats for his 10th homer. ''I was like, 'Wow, that was a bad pitch,''' Delga- do said. ''He made me pay.'' As soon as Ross fin- ished circling the bases, Gonzalez popped from the dugout to switch pitchers. Delgado threw 74 pitches and received a standing ovation as he walked slow- ly off the field. NOTES: IF Miguel Tejada was supposed to do a rehab stint in the minors, but the injury situation forced the Giants to put him straight in the lineup at third base. ... Braves 3B Chipper Jones batted sixth, the lowest he's hit in the Atlanta order since 1997. ... Jurrjens will be making his second career start against the Giants. He's 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in his only other appear- ance. ... Matt Cain will get the nod for San Francisco in the series finale. He's 2- 2 with a 4.03 ERA in five career starts vs. the Braves. Rematch headlines Houston UFC card HOUSTON (AP) — The message on Gray Maynard's T-shirt said it all about his directive when he faces UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar in Houston on Oct. 8. ''Dethrone.'' Maynard and Edgar shared a podi- um at the Toyota Center on Tuesday to promote their third meeting, the featured bout of UFC 136. Maynard beat Edgar by decision in April 2008, and the two dueled to a draw on New Year's Day, a match Maynard still thinks he won. The two were supposed to meet again in late May for Edgar's 155- pound belt, but the bout was post- poned because both fighters had injuries. It's back on now, and May- nard (11-0-1) vows to leave no doubt about the outcome this time. ''We've danced a couple of times, I guess,'' Maynard said. ''For the third fight, we're going to be 100 per- cent. It's pretty much up to him if it goes five rounds, or if it ends early. But I'm walking away with the belt. It's up to him, whether he wants a DENVER (AP) — Col- orado authorities are warn- ing cyclists that tacks, box cutters and broken glass have been found strewn along popular bike routes that are part of course plans for major races next week — including the inaugural USA Pro Cycling Chal- lenge. The objects are being purposely placed on trails and roads, Jefferson County sheriff's spokeswoman whole fight or not.'' Edgar (13-1-1) was not quite as brash. ''We've been in there two times already,'' Edgar said. ''There's really not many secrets. We've seen what each other has. I know I'm preparing for it. Of course I want to finish. I don't want to have that feeling again of going to a draw.'' Also on the card, Jose Aldo (19-1) will face Kenny Florian (16-5) for Aldo's featherweight belt. The 35- year-old Florian became the first UFC fighter to compete in four dif- ferent weight classes when he beat Diego Nunes in his 145-pound debut in June. A knee injury kept Florian away from training for two months earlier this year. Now, he says he's adjusted to his new weight and feels as fit as ever heading into the matchup with Aldo, a Brazilian star who's 11 years younger. ''When you're not doing anything for two months, literally, leg up on the couch, you're going to gain weight,'' Jacki Kelley said Tuesday. ''We've had five or six incidents where things were put along popular bicycle roads,'' Kelley said. She said the incidents have caused several flat tires but no injuries. Florian said. ''Now, it's a completely different story. I'm at a far lower weight, and I expect the weight cut to be that much easier. With that said, I still felt that I performed very well (against Nunes), and could've done another five rounds that night. I felt good. I'll definitely be at my best for Oct. 8, I can't wait.'' Aldo is coming off a five-round unanimous decision over Mark Hominick on April 30. ''I'm definitely working on that in camp, to come back stronger than ever,'' Aldo said through a translator. ''A lot of people questioned in that fifth round, that they thought I had gassed and I wasn't in the fight any- more. But I guarantee you that I was still in the fight, and I'll come back stronger than ever.'' The undercard includes matches between middleweights Chael Son- nen (26-10-1) and Brian Stann (11- 3); heavyweights Dave Herman (21- 2) and Mike Russow (14-1) and light- weights Melvin Guillard (46-9-3) and Joe Lauzon (20-6). Crews will be sweeping the roads before the races, Kelley said. She said authorities found broken glass that ''appears to have been pur- posely placed on the shoul- der'' of Lookout Mountain Road — a scenic, winding site that figures to be one of the more challenging climbs on the professional race. Kelley said there has been a history of tension between motorists and bicy- clists, especially in Deer Creek, where box cutters were found. (PCL). In May 2010, Willis received a $50 million, five-year contract extension that takes him through the 2016 season and includes $29 million in guaranteed money. He earns $10 mil- lion per season. Gore's situation is slightly different consider- ing the 28-year-old two- time Pro Bowler missed the final five games last season with a fractured right hip sustained in a Monday night game at Arizona on Nov. 29. He avoided surgery for the injury after doctors told him he likely could return to his former form with rehabilitation. Gore certainly will seek a contract compara- ble to the $43 million, five-year deal Carolina running back DeAngelo Williams — 20 days older than San Francisco's star — recently received from the Panthers. That includes $21 million guar- anteed. Williams was sidelined for 10 games last year with a sprained right foot. ''I hope they do (reward me),'' Gore said. ''If they don't, I'll become a free agent.'' Gore insists he feels like his old self again and is completely healthy. ''What do you think?'' Gore said with a grin. Yes, he looks it. Whether that's enough for the 49ers front office to make him a big-money offer before the Sept. 11 opener at home against the Seahawks is unclear. Man- agement might want to see him in action for a while. Gore said he hasn't received any word from the team on a potential extension. The late Hall of Famer Joe Perry is San Francis- co's all-time leader in yards rushing (7,344) and touchdowns rushing (50). Gore and the rest of the 49ers will wear Perry's No. 34 on their helmets this season. Perry, the first player with back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing sea- sons and nicknamed ''The Jet'' for his sensational speed, died in April at age 84. ''That is one of my goals. Hopefully I'll stay healthy and get it done,'' Gore said of topping Perry's mark. ''I feel good. I feel like the 22- year-old Frank Gore, ready to take the load, ready to play. I feel like I can score any time I touch the ball. I can block any- body I've got to block. I'm just trying to get the offense down pat and get ready for Seattle.'' Gore ran for 853 yards and three touchdowns in his sixth NFL season and caught 46 passes for 452 yards and two TDs. Gore's 24 100-yard rushing games are the most in 49ers franchise history. He isn't used to playing much in the preseason, but coach Jim Harbaugh wanted to see Gore play. He was on the field for the first seven plays in a 24-3 loss at New Orleans last Friday night, Gore carry- ing four times for 20 yards. He typically only takes part for a handful of snaps total during the exhibition season. ''I was hoping not to play because I feel like I like to work hard in prac- tice,'' Gore said Tuesday. ''But I was happy that Coach had me out there for a couple plays, just to get some hits in and get up to speed in a game again. I didn't want to come out, really.'' Also Tuesday, it appeared the 49ers were still contemplating whether to sign veteran quarterback Daunte Culpepper, who worked out for the team a day ear- lier. San Diego police want to talk to Kobe Bryant SAN DIEGO (AP) — A police spokesman says detectives want to interview Kobe Bryant after a man claimed he was injured by the Los Angeles Lakers star during a confrontation at a church. Police say Bryant apparently thought the man was taking his picture with a cell phone at a Carmel Valley church on Sunday. Bryant report- edly took the phone from the man but saw no pic- tures on it, then left the church. According to broadcast reports, the man, whose identity hasn't been released, went to a hospital for treatment of a wrist injury. Police spokesman Detective Gary Hassen said Tuesday that detectives were told they won't be able to talk to the alleged victim until Aug. 24.
