Special to the DN Sixteen Salisbury High School students have been giving back to the commu- nity and helping out at the Kelly-Griggs Museum Tues- days through Thursdays af- ter school. Bev Hartshorn, curator of the museum, contacted the school to see about the pos- sibility of a community part- nership to help get mainte- nance and minor repair work done at the museum. The students are prep- ping and painting fences and signs, doing landscap- ing and cleaning both the outside and inside of the property. "It was so nice to have the students help out before our annual Ice Cream Social on Sept. 14," Hartshorn said. "They're a great help and are making it possible to get a lot of jobs done around the museum that otherwise wouldn't get completed. The Kelly-Griggs Association is very thankful for their de- pendability, hard work and dedication." Students commented that they are happy to give back to the community while gaining some skills of their own. "I like that I'm getting job experience and skills outside of th e re gu la r cla ss ro om ," said Kendull Thevenot, a senior. Many of the students had never been to the Kelly- Griggs Museum and were in awe of the history and ar- tifacts located right here in Red Bluff. "I loved doing the tour," said Erika Couch. "The in- side of the museum is beau- tiful and the clothes they wore are amazing. I'm glad I took this opportunity to come and work here and make this place look even better." If you and your organiza- tion are interested in form- ing a community partner- ship with Salisbury High School, call Barbara Thomas at 529-8766 or send an email to bthomas@rbhsd.org. The Kelly-Griggs Museum gives tours 1-3 p.m. Thurs- days and Sundays. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children. The museum is at 311 Washington St. in Red Bluff.
