Tonya Redamonti Williams, a former fair board di- rector and member of the recently established Com- mitted to Improvement group, whose efforts have gone toward sustaining the fairgrounds, announced Friday that the Dancing with the Stars event raised $3,700. A crowd of about 100 cheered on four teams of dancers in the open air at the fairgrounds. Danc- ers included Red Bluff Gold Exchange owner Jessie Woods and her husband, Cuco. California Highway Patrol Lt. Lou Aviles partnered with Katie Lindsey. John Growney of Growney Brothers Rodeo and Kathy Bryer glided along the dance floor. And former Los Molinos Mayor Kenny Brewer shared the stage with Allie Madison. Woods, who took home the Judges' Choice Award, stepped back in time for her first dance, doing the hand jive and donning the appropriate costume. Aviles, who raised $2,050 to benefit the fair- grounds, earning him the People's Choice Award, first took the floor to Elvis Presley's "Hound Dog." "I love the fair, I like to be a part of the community, and I know that the fair has been struggling," Aviles said. "So, when I asked about this and was given the chance I couldn't turn it down." The Dancing with the Stars event, which also fea- tured several classic cars that lined a portion of the dance area, was put together in less than two months, Redamonti Williams said. The Committed to Improvement group formed af- ter the Tehama District Fair board of directors ear- lier this year delivered a bleak outlook for the fair- grounds, which they said had been living beyond its means with operating costs outpacing operating rev- enue for years.
