FALL 2014 The Squirrel's Nest P S I C H A P T E R O F A L P H A G A M M A D E L T A A T T H E U N I V E R S I T Y O F A L A B A M A AlumnAe, Get Involved wIth PsI ChAPter thIs FAll W e just kicked off another school year in our beautiful new house with recruitment, which began on August 9. Our 347 returning collegians welcomed 115 new members on Bid Day, August 16. We now have a chapter of 462 girls! It's wonderful to have the additional space we so badly needed. Strong Summer Recruitment AGD international visited our house for a recommendation workshop weekend in July and again for a recruitment workshop and formal recruitment. Recruitment Advisor Elizabeth Smith Melancon '02 did a wonderful job of implementing a pilot recruitment program and working closely with alumnae who were on hand to help. A heartfelt thank-you to Fay Smith Poole '77 who monitored the agdrush2014@gmail.com e-mail account for incoming recommendations and for keeping a database of all our legacies and relatives. AGD Plans Gameday Events With this many young women and their families to serve on game days, our housemother, Ms. Debbie, has purchased new chafing dishes and plans two serving lines. The house will serve pre-game meals for the Florida, Texas A&M, Mississippi State, and Auburn games. Please let us know if you plan to join us at the house by posting on our Psi Chapter of AGD Facebook page each Monday before the game. A donation to cover your meal is greatly appreciated. Involvement with Recruitment and Upcoming Fall Events Spur Excitement Alumnae Keep Psi Strong Many of you have asked if our chapter advisor position has been filled, and the answer is "not yet." The actives have been without this key advisor for a year now and we are all hopeful that international will name someone soon. To give Leigh Stutts Heifner '93 a much-deserved break, I will serve as the property advisor this year. We hope to finish some interior decorating needs, as well as keep the house comfortable for this unbelievably huge chapter. I recently learned that we have one of the lowest house payments on campus. Our girls pay $3,600 per semester to live in the house and $2,600 per semester for those who do not live-in; both include their meals. Other houses are as high as $7,000 per semester. Join Psi Chapter This Fall We're hosting another Chevy Six Band Party and fundraiser on Friday, October 17, before the Texas A&M game at Glory Bound. Tickets are $50 each, but we can only accommodate 200 people. As of the printing of this newsletter, we still have many spots open. If you would like to come, send me an e-mail and I'll send you the details. Roll Tide! Loyally, Nancy Richeson Siniard '73 nsiniard@totalcommarketing.com A Lifetime of Alpha Gam Martha Nabers '62 Reminisces on Her Psi Experience T he day I joined Psi Chapter was one of the finest in my life. I have a poster in my kitchen that I got at a convention about 50 years ago that says "I never met an Alpha Gam that I didn't like." How true that has been! Membership and serving in leadership positions gave me a serious sense of pride in the house, in the girls, and the fraternity as a whole. It gave us all a secure group that has kept us close our entire grownup lives. (Continued on page 3)
