By Antonio Gonzalez The Associated Press OAKLAND Steve Kerr played golf with Stephen Curry, trav- eled to Australia to meet with Andrew Bogut and spoke with every other player on the Golden State Warriors in some form or fashion this summer. Now he hopes to carry those relationships onto the court. With the Warriors set to open training camp Tuesday, Kerr is counting on his work this off- season to pay off in practice. He has traveled the globe since be- ing hired to replace coach Mark Jackson in May, believing all along that building personal re- lationships with players would wash away any uneasiness some had because of his popular pre- decessor's firing. "My whole goal over the sum- mer was to get to know guys," Kerr said during an informal news conference with reporters Thursday. "I didn't want to walk into training camp and say, 'Hi, I'm Steve.'" Getting off to a quick start could be key for Kerr this year. The Warriors are coming off a 51-win season and back-to-back playoff appearances, and owner Joe Lacob's decision to dismiss Jackson puts immediate pres- sure on the new coach to keep NBA NewWarriorscoachKerreagertobegin Replaces fired Jackson a er 51-win season, back-to-back playoff appearances for team BEN MARGOT — THE ASSOCIATED PRESS FILE Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr, pictured May 20, is counting on his work this offseason to pay off in practice. They cut it themselves, com- mitting three errors and wasting a golden scoring chance on the way to a 5-3 loss to the Reds that manager Ron Roenicke described as "sloppy." Brandon Phillips hit his first home run in almost three months and rookie David Holmberg pitched six solid innings as Cin- cinnati officially ended the Brew- ers' postseason hopes. Milwaukee's loss meant the San Francisco Giants clinched a play- off spot. "You still want to finish well," Roenicke said. "This game was a killer. It's hard to watch, knowing you could've won the game and you give it away." The Brewers committed three errors, including two in the fifth when the Reds tied the score and took a 3-2 lead with unearned runs.
