Around 2.3 inches of rain fell at the Red Bluff Municipal Airport between 10 p.m. Wednesday and noon Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. The heaviest rain came around 10 a.m. when a half-inch was re- ported in the hour. It was unknown whether the rain had an effect on a semi truck that jack-knifed on Interstate 5 at the Sacramento River Bridge near Adobe Road around the same time and ended up on its side. The truck impeded traffic in the southbound lanes for more than an hour, which caused traffic congestion on downtown streets as well. No rain had been reported in all of September up until Wednes- day's down pour. Season to date totals were re- ported at 0.11 inches prior to the rain. The normal season to date is 0.61 inches. The National Weather Service was reporting the rain to be gone by Friday. Tehama County sheriff's dep- uties responded to a silent hold- up alarm at the bank about 10:40 a.m., according to a press release issued Thursday eve- ning. "Upon their arrival, deputies learned a white male adult en- tered the bank and brandished a handgun while demanding money from a bank employee," according to the release. "The bank employee, following the suspect's demands, provided the suspect an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency," and then fled the area on foot. The man, described as white, 6-foot-2, about 200 pounds with a medium build and between the ages of 30 and 40, has not been found. The man was dressed in blue jeans, a black jacket, a black San Francisco Giants baseball hat, and was wearing a white dust mask over his face, according to the release and a witness in the bank. The firearm, described as a black semi-automatic handgun, has not been recovered, the re- lease said. Johnston said officials were processing the scene and can- vassing the area, speaking to potential witnesses and seeking video footage from surrounding businesses. Johnston said officials ob- tained still photographs of the man from the bank, and he was last seen walking west toward the railroad tracks in the area. Sheriff's deputies taped off the north side of the building that also houses the Los Moli- nos Unified School District of- fice, and could be seen search- ing a nearby orchard. A California Highway Patrol helicopter and a unit from the Tehama County District Attor- ney's Office also assisted in the search. A witness who was inside the bank during the robbery de- scribed a relatively calm scene. By Andre Byik abyik@redbluffdailynews.com @andrebyik on Twitter RED BLUFF A Red Bluff man on Tuesday was sentenced to 34 years, 8 months in state prison on charges that included at- tempted aggravated mayhem, attempted mayhem and battery with serious bodily injury stem- ming from a Christmas Day at- tack on an inmate last year, the Tehama County District Attor- ney's Office announced Thurs- day. Felix Martinez on June 20 was convicted at a jury trial on those charges, as well as mayhem, assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of posses- sion of a firearm by a felon, possession of ammunition by a felon and failure to appear, ac- cording to the District Attor- ney's Office. Deputy District Attor- ney Austin Neiman, who prosecuted the case, said the charges stemmed from incidents that occurred in August, October and December of last year. Neiman said the Christmas Day attack on an inmate at the Tehama County Jail was gang re- lated and carried out by Marti- nez and another inmate. The other inmate "pled out," and agreed to tes- tify against Martinez during his jury trial, Nei- man said. Judge John Gara- venta presided over the jury trial, and the jury deliberated for less than two hours before reaching its verdict, ac- cording to the District Attor- ney's Office. Martinez also was arrested in December of last year for allegedly shooting at an occu- pied trailer on Blackberry Ave- nue off State Route 99E with a .22 caliber pellet rifle, accord- ing to a Daily News article pub- lished Dec. 10, 2013. He was 36 at the time. Neiman said charges stem- ming from that incident were dismissed.
