p. 3 SIGMA PHI EPSILON S ince the spring newsletter we have had many accomplishments, including G.P.A. improvement each term and implementation of a four-year continuous member development program. As our university gains more recognition on a national level we are constantly improving our Chapter to stay ahead of the pack. Academics Our Chapter has seen steady improvement in grades over the last year. In the winter term we achieved a G.P.A. of 3.04, ranking us fifth for local fraternities, and in the spring term we achieved a 3.06, which ranked us eighth. We are implementing a new academic policy this fall to promote higher academic achievement for our Chapter. This policy includes increased academic support and standards for new member recruitment, as well as initiated members. Philanthropy Our philanthropy chairman is planning a new annual philanthropy for our Chapter that will take place in the fall. He will be meeting with the CEO of the Run for Courage organization to utilize their professional advice and resources for this event. All funds raised will be donated to combat sex trafficking in the United States. Membership We were especially excited to see record numbers of recruits attending our spring recruitment events. The final recruiting class was narrowed down to 14 new members, the largest spring class we have seen in recent years. We ended the year as the second biggest chapter on campus with 95 members. Athletics This year our Chapter participated in the first annual Greek Games competition, where teams of one sorority and one fraternity play basketball, football, dodgeball, and soccer. We were paired up with Delta Gamma sorority and achieved first place in the basketball tournament and second place for the tournament overall. Member Activities Multiple members of our Chapter joined other influential groups on campus this year: • Donavon Hampton '16 was voted to the student recreation center advisory board with the student government. • Matthew Steiger '17 took a position working on marketing and promotions for the University of Oregon athletics department. • Tyler Cady '16, Hunter Heck '15, and Patrick Coyle '16 were given a spot on Duck TV to air a weekly news show. • Jake Logan '15 was appointed to the Interfraternity Council Judicial Board. • Julian Shamloo '15 was appointed to be the head of the University of Oregon Ad Team. They will compete against teams from 200 universities to produce an advertising campaign for Fortune 500 companies. Parent's Weekend In early spring we had a parent's weekend with the Chi Omega sorority. We attended the Ducks baseball game against PAC-12 rival Arizona, the spring football game, and hosted a barbecue at the Chapter House. It was a great opportunity to meet our brothers' parents, and we were pleased to hear that many of the Chi Omegas' parents were impressed with our hospitality. As always, thank you for your support and feel free to drop by the house anytime!
