T
his past June I had an experience I will long remem-
ber. I want to share about a trip I took with my oldest
grandson this past June to Little Rock, Arkansas. My
grandchildren are excellent tennis players and both
are highly ranked in their respective age divisions. Marshall, III is
15 and plays in the 16 and under division. In order to be eligible for
the Little Rock Closed USTA Southern tournament, Marshall had
to be ranked in the top 25 in North Carolina. He is ranked 18th. So,
kids from 10 southern states descended on Little Rock for this big
Southern tournament.
So what does this trip have to do with technology? My grandson and I are both
barbeque aficionados, so we planned our trip with this in mind. We ate barbeque in
five different states during the five-day trip. We found all the places to eat using our
iPhone apps and the GPS functions on our phones. e main applications we used
were Apple maps when we needed voice instructions, Google maps and Google in
general (I used Google to find a church on Sunday). e most useful soware ap-
plication was Poynt, it found all the restaurants and gas stations we needed.
