An autopsy performed on the girl's body Friday in Woodland showed that the girl had eaten popcorn that became lodged in and blocked her intestinal tract, according to a Sheriff's Depart- ment press release. "This led to a bowel rupture and the onset of a rapid infection leading to her death," according to the release. "There is no evi- dence of abuse and the case does not meet the standard for crimi- nal neglect." The girl, who resided in the Sheriff's Department's jurisdic- tion, was not identified in the re- lease. The investigation, according to the release, has been closed. The 132nd Multi-Role Bridge Company from Redding-Mount Shasta-Eureka recently ac- quired four sets of the tri-sup- port bridge that can be de- ployed over wet or dry gaps. "It's critical. It's a highly complicated piece of equip- ment," said Staff Sgt. Michael Smith of the training. The bridges, manufactured by British company WFEL, have been used during the war in Afghanistan. However the four assigned to the 132nd would be used in the Western United States in times of natural disasters, such as a bridge becoming un- usable because of flooding or an earthquake. WFEL sent over four train- ers from England to work with the 132nd. With a fully trained crew of eight doing efficient work, training officer Dave Shaw says the bridge can be deployed over a gap of around 150 feet in 90 minutes. Two separate crews have been getting their hands on training at the Armory in the morning hours to avoid the heat. "It's hot work, but the guys are doing well," Smith said. The bridge has a military load class, which would allow a tank to cross.
