Please join in the campaign; your support can make the difference! A s alumni, we contribute time, energy, and our financial resources to our fraternity and chapter. Our gifts are an investment in the lives of our active members, pledges and future Gamma Upsilon brothers, and our legacy as ATW Gamma Upsilon alumni. We thank all the alumni who've already contributed. Your commitment is inspiring and we hope more will join you. We are still experiencing a very low participation rate of only 10% of all Gamma Upsilon alumni (960 total), some pledge classes do not even have one contributor. Gamma Upsilon is at a watershed regarding the capital campaign. We missed our last campaign goal of $1,000,000 pledged by June 1, 2014, by almost $300,000! As a result, we had to place the major interior house renovation project on hold for an entire year! At the end of the 2014 calendar year, we will evaluate what projects can be completed during the summer of 2015. This will be the next window of opportunity to complete major construction and renovations. We cannot afford to miss another year of not competing with the top fraternities and dorms on campus. We may not like it, but the top 2015 students will want to live in a nicely renovated and appointed fraternity house versus a house Major Renovations and scholarships Dependent Upon Alumni Contributions Your Pledge Can Make the differenCe This summer work has been done to rebuild the front and back entry areas that have deteriorated from age and extensive use. with a 1990s look and the associated lack of amenities. We must confront that reality. As you know, we strive not for warm bodies to pay the house bill, but, in fact, we persevere to pledge the brightest, and the best, future leaders who will be successful in all aspects of life. We need to know what kind of dollars we've got to work with, and this is where you come in. We must meet or exceed our goal of $1.25 million soon, and we can only do this with your immediate support. This summer, we unfortunately couldn't complete the major renovations necessary to compete on campus. The reality is that not enough brothers stepped up to support Gamma Upsilon. The Corporation Board and the Board of Trustees are now forced to make it work with what they have and it is not up to par with the competition. Sadly in recent years, there have been some top fraternities on the Iowa State campus that have had to close due to a lack of alumni leadership and support, Sigma Nu and Delta Upsilon to name a couple. Other fraternities such as Sigma Chi, Delta Tau Delta, Sigma Phi Epsilon, and others have either built a new house (or in the process) or have extensively renovated their homes. The competition is stiff and getting stronger. We are thankful for the contributors we have, but more are needed, and even a small donation of $500 or more shows your support for our young brothers, current and future. Let's get the overall percentage of member participation up to 50% as a stretch goal, we currently are at only 10%. Please get on the scoreboard for this worthy effort! Thanks to those who have contributed, we were able to complete the following essential repairs and replacements this summer: • Replacement of the parking lot and structural banks supporting the lots • Rebuilt the front and back entry areas that have deteriorated from age and use • Replaced the mattresses • Several kitchen appliances were either repaired or replaced • Repair of the exterior facade and exterior painting • Beginning of window replacement We can't afford to install air conditioning throughout, which appears to be a deal breaker for the 2015 student. Join the campaign today; we need $1 million by December 31, 2014! Make your gift using the enclosed pledge form or visit http://ato.kintera.org/ gammaupsilon to make a pledge online. To make a tax-deductible gift, of $10,000 or more, you may use the ATW National Foundation. Contact us for details. (Continued on page 4)
