SRDC campers explore Lake Red Bluff and what lives there with Zach Whitten. Nomlaki Indians. The camps program has been sup- ported by the Paskenta Band of Nomlaki and Rolling Hills Casino and the PG & E Foundation. Com- munity support has been provided by Aaron‚s, Soroptimist International of Red Bluff, Red Bluff Daily News and community individuals. The last two camps offer some unique learning opportunities. July 18 to 22 camp the 6 to 12 year old campers will learn about “Life in the Water!” It will be an opportunity to go wading and collect things that live in water and see some of the small things using a microscope. This will give them an opportuni- ty to learn about who and what lives around the water, and how they thrive in their watery world. Campers will build periscopes, go on an aquatic scavenger hunt and create mini- aquariums to take home. The final week will feature learn- ing about “Native Northern Califor- nia!” Campers will learn how differ- ent tribes lived from the north coast to the shores of Lake Tahoe. They will learn to “rope a grizzly bear”, learn about the native plants and ani- mals, create a mural depicting the local area as it was 200 years ago, share a skit about a local Native American legend and share it with members of the Paskenta Band of the The Camps are held Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon at the Center, 1000 Sale Lane, locat- ed in the Mendocino National For- est’s Red Bluff Recreation Area. Cost is $50 per camper per week that includes a $10 non-refundable deposit. Registration prior to 8 am Monday morning is encouraged. Water, juice and snacks are provided.
