I stop, watch, and debate for a while whether it is really a seal or just a rock that appears and disappears in the bouncing waves. And I can never decide for sure. This evening while meditating by the water's edge, a slapping sound kept creeping into my consciousness. When I looked up, a seal came to the surface and then dove into the depths with its full body showing, kind of like a dolphin or whale. It was most unusual. Always before, I've just seen seal heads above the water. Then I discovered where the slapping sound was coming from. Just as the seal dis- appeared into the water again, it gave a joyful little twist of its tail, as if it were intentionally making that joyful slapping sound, tail against the water. This was followed by another seal and another and another, not all at once, but one after another. It reminded me of watching shooting stars: If you look here, one is there; if you look there, one is here. There were lots of seals and lots of slapping sounds. I have never seen this before and wondered if I were privy to some sort of seasonal mating ritual. Then as quickly as it began, it was over -- ten minutes max -- now not a seal in sight. What a show! I stayed longer than I had planned, for I was mesmerized by this unusual seal activ- ity. And there wasn't a trainer in sight. The seals themselves had choreo- graphed the whole thing: no training, 10 arrested in Drug round up David Zarkou, DPM Foot and Ankle Surgery PODIATRY (928) 669-3033 At La Paz Medical Services 150 E. My 21 years of professional experience, knowledge and training in the criminal justice field as a police officer and Chief of Police provides me with a strong foundation to perform the duties and responsibilities of the Justice of the Peace. If elected, I want the Justice Court to be a true "People's Court" where every citizen knows they have a voice and will be listened to. I am dedicated to serving this position with fairness, dignity and respect, and will ensure that the Justice Court serves the citizens with honesty, integrity and equality. The responsibilities of the Justice of the Peace are not limited to office hours, and I am committed to making myself available for my duties and to law enforcement 24/7 when needed. I have the experience in budgeting, personnel and day-to-day office management that will bring fiscal responsibility and accountability to the Justice Court. An efficient and effective court is not evaluated by the size of its budget nor the amount of monies collected, it is measured by the application of justice, fairness, integrity and in gaining and maintaining public trust. My top priorities if elected will be to make an assessment of the office, identify the case load and to establish a criteria for management of the cases, as well as maintaining and establishing an effective working relationship with fellow JPs." ❖ 1993 – Graduate US Air Force Law Enforcement Training Academy ❖ 1996 – Graduate Phoenix AZ Law Enforcement Academy ❖ 2008 – Graduate FBI National Academy ❖ Resident of Precinct 4 since 2005 I am asking for your support and vote on August 26, 2014 Independents: Ask for Republican Ballot to vote for me! Police Department, U.S. Border Patrol and the Riverside Coun- ty Sheriff's Offi ce), conducted a "drug round up" in the areas of Ehrenberg and Quartzsite and the CRIT valley. Arrested wer:Dennis Baragar, Linda Castleberry, Gene Clark Jr., Thomas Delano, Jose Flores, Angel Gonzalez, Harry Kuffel, Manuel Lopez, Alfredo Sambrano and Debra Stephens. For the past nine months, the La Paz County Task Force has been conduct- ing a series of narcotic related inves- tigations across the County. During these investigations, Undercover Detectives and Confi dential Informants have been purchasing methamphet- amine from several (alleged) drug dealers. After making multiple pur- chases from each target, the Task Force closes out each case by presenting the case(s) to the County Attorney's Offi ce who then sends the paperwork to the local judge and issues a warrant for the suspect's arrest. This specifi c round up is closing out the Ehrenberg/Quartzsite areas and a very small portion of the CRIT valley. The day of the round up the Task Force made up several groups of consolidated arrest teams with the above agencies and went door to door arresting the alleged suspects. The Quartzsite Police Department assisted with the Task Force with the arrest(s) in the Quartzsite area. We also had assistance from the Riverside County Sheriff's Narcotics Team (Blythe) that made the arrest of Angel Gonzalez who resided within their jurisdiction. There are still several pending cases through- out different areas and towns within La Paz County that will be addressed when the investigations are complete. The types of drugs that are currently trending in La Paz County are meth- amphetamine, marijuana, prescrip- tions and heroin. If you notice suspi- cious activity in your neighborhood or you suspect a person is selling/using any illegal drugs, you can contact the Task Force at 928 669-9645 or anony- mously on line at www.lapazsheriff. org. Those arrested and charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
