even puts a Mediterranean spin on an old
Southern favorite, collard greens.
Originally from Turkey, Mustafa
moved to Orange County, Calif., where
he was a hotel manager for 23 years with
Hilton and Sheraton. In 2002, he accept-
ed a transfer to Fayetteville, so that he
and Kathy could spend more time with
their three children, Alex, Mark and Erin.
When he and Kathy saw the little build-
ing for rent on Ramsey Street, they began
to pursue their dream of opening a res-
taurant of their own.
The cozy restaurant, which has seat-
ing for 40 inside and 30 outside, is big on
service and hospitality. The waiters and
waitresses, sharply dressed in black and
white with black pinstriped aprons, are
engaging and personable. The décor is
reminiscent of a European café, slightly
rustic with warm gold walls and an ori-
ental rug at the entrance. Painted in script
across the back wall is the admonition to
"Sit Long, Laugh Often, Love Much."
The restaurant's slogan is "celebrat-
ing good food and good company," and
in June, the U.S. Commerce Association
gave the Somars more reasons to cel-
ebrate, selecting Sherefe Mediterranean
Grill for the 2009 Best of Fayetteville
Award in the Family Restaurants catego-
ry. Sherefe!
