20 UCW OCTOBER 14-20, 2009 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM The air is filled with the smell of popcorn and children's laughter. People are throwing Frisbees while others wait for the free raffle to begin. Some simply relax in lawn chairs, talking amongst friends and waiting for the show to start. This is the atmosphere at the Family, and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (FMWR) Family Flix in the Grove, an outdoor movie event held throughout the summer at the John L. Throckmorton Library. Family Flix in the Grove, sponsored by Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union and Army's Army, is a fun, free event for families offering patrons play- ground equipment, music, free popcorn and door prizes followed by a family- friendly movie. Family Flix is also a great way to meet other parents with kids the same age. In 2005, FMWR saw the need for a fun, family-friendly activity with little to no cost. With over 200 people in attendance at each event, it has become a popular activity on Fort Bragg. Free giveaways provided by Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union range from backpacks to DVDs and are always a popular portion of the event. The next Family Flix will be held October 17. The feature film for the evening will be Casper. Everyone is en- couraged to wear Halloween costumes and join us as we watch the adven- tures of the friendly ghost. Family Flix in the Grove is open to all identification card- holders. Attendees are encour- aged to bring blankets or lawn chairs and kick back and have a great time. Concessions such as hot dogs, hamburgers and ice cream will be available purchase. "Family Flix in the Grove is a great way for the Fort Bragg community to get out and enjoy a great movie and the fresh night air," said MWR Marketing Chief Lori Bruschi. "It's free, fun and a great family activity." For more information on Family Flix in the Grove, visit fortbraggmwr. com. KIMBERLY HUSTON, Contributing Writer.
