The semester began with a bang as we recruited a pledge class of 15 members, the largest spring class Missouri Alpha has had in the past 10 years, and culminated with us becom- ing one of 20 Iron Phi chapters. To become an Iron Phi chapter undergraduates and alumni must select an athletic endeavor of their choice and raise a minimum of $1,000 and accomplish the athletic endeavor itself. Throughout the year, all of the brothers worked toward improving our chapter and becoming the greatest versions of ourselves. Undergraduates Improve in Academics The biggest focus for our chapter this semester was improving our overall GPA. Last year, Missouri Alpha was right at the all-male average of a 2.81 GPA. We have begun to crack down on low grades and enforced our academic probation policies. Moreover, our academic chairman developed the grade team program. Teams are made up of three brothers from different pledge classes, and the team with the top GPA at the end of the year receives $300. This encourages us to hold each other accountable while strengthening the brotherhood. The grades for 2014 will not be released until next semester, but we are confident that we have improved. Giving Back to the Community At the beginning of the semester, one of our goals was to raise $10,000 for ALS and become an Iron Phi chapter. I proudly report that we have reached our goal thanks to the support of our alumni, especially Tony Logan '88, family, and our community. Brother Logan is currently in the lead for the Iron Horse Award, giv- en annually to the top fundraiser within the Iron Phi program. Also, this year we hosted a successful Phield Day for sororities to compete in washers, sack races, and other events. We did not stop there and also hosted a drive-in movie in our backyard. With all of the hard work put in by every brother we were able to reach our goal and have begun planning for next year with hopes of repeated success. Campus and Alumni Events Last fall we hosted our first alumni tailgate and had more than 100 alumni come watch the Tigers during their magical season. We are already planning for next year's tailgate and anticipate a turnout that doubles last year. We hosted several events with the women of Pi Beta Phi as they were our Homecoming partners and had another successful formal in Memphis, Tennessee. In the spring we hosted socials with our Greek Week partners, Kappa Delta, as well as, BBQ for our sister sorority, Delta Gamma. In the spring, we continued our tradition of having a Phi's and Bowties date party. Overall it was a very successful social year for the brothers of Phi Delta Theta. Strong Competition in Intramurals As we strive to succeed in all things we do, our intramural teams were very competitive this year. Both our basketball and football teams made long runs in the playoffs only to come up a bit short. During Greek Week our sports teams earned points that helped us achieve our sixth place standing. To become more well-rounded men we paired up with the Boys and Girls Club and hosted sports and physics days as a way of giving back to the community. Over the past year, Missouri Alpha has made strides in all areas to become the best fraternity with the best brothers. From grades to intramu- ral sports we have made tremendous strides. The next year looks bright for our chapter and I would like to thank all the alumni for your support as we strive to become the greatest versions of our- selves. We welcome all alumni to come visit the chapter house anytime!
